It’s been an upsetting and sad week at the Christian Dior offices. Creative director John Galliano was arrested at a French café on a variety of charges including anti-Semitism, which saw him swiftly suspended from his duties at Dior. Once video emerged of a second public neo-Nazi tirade, his ouster from the brand was just as decisive. Galliano’s Christian Dior Fall 2011 collection became an awkward and impromptu swan song, and the dark, moody lighting that might have looked cool under different circumstances just looked somber at the Rodin Museum in Paris.

Galliano likely had little to do with the collection’s handbags, though, and that’s what we’re here to discuss. At a house as big as Dior, accessories and shoes are largely handled by a separate department, and although the head designer has creative input into their development, they’re the work product of a set of people who toil largely in obscurity. And that’s what this Dior show did exceptionally well – at the end, the brand honored the people behind the scenes whose livelihoods and careers were thrown into tumult by Galliano’s cowardly words. If this set of lovely, luxurious bag is any indication, they were doing excellent work under a very troubled man.

It’s such a sad news the one about Galliano. However these bags are nothing new and sometimes they are relaly old, and at all not beautiful. SOmetimes they are a reinterpretation, or ebtetr a copy, of some past succesfull models….no I rewant Galliano and I want that DIor puts more attention in bags…

  • adrienne z

don’t even show these if they are galiano’s. wipe the slate clean.

  • Mochababe73

That red #1 and #5 are a beautiful shade. I love them!

I’m sure that Galliano will bounce back. He was drunk, and alot of people do and say things that they wouldn’t otherwise if they were sober and in their right mind.

    • tadpolenyc

being drunk is never an adequate excuse, and inebriation doesn’t force you to spew anti-semitic hate speech either. so while i agree with you that galliano wouldn’t have said those things under different circumstances, i’m not entirely positive i can be convinced that he didn’t mean them, which i believe is the more important issue here.

#3,5,10 — they all belong in my closet. Even #16, though I suspect it is way above my budget. Love these because they look practical and stylish.

these bags aren’t soso nice. it lacks luxurious accent. i think after galliano has been fired, i think it should be best that the lvmh company can hire a better and more artistis designer. it wouldn’t be nice if the company will eat back what it spotted out. i mean in the fashion world, every act is a form of art and fashion. if you messed up, you’re out. we’re talking very high standard here, not a simple draw back with anything.
