Chloé’s Just-Unveiled Pre-Fall 2018 Bags Give Us a Closer Look at the Line Under Its New Designer

Designer Natacha Ramsay-Levi is keeping the brand's aesthetic alive

How flexible a brand’s aesthetic is depends on the brand and its history. Louis Vuitton, for example, has some fixed signatures—like its monogram and coated canvases—but has taken cues from an enormous range of different artists, icons and aesthetic genres. Chloé, on the other hand, is at the other end of the spectrum: through endless industry trends and shifting creative leadership, the brand has remained a reliable source of ultra-luxe boho Parisian femininity since its founding.

When Clare Waight Keller left Chloé for Givenchy in 2016, few people doubted that new creative director Natacha Ramsay-Levi would continue the brand’s aesthetic legacy without some sort of enormous disruption, which presents an interesting opportunity for the first-time creative director: how do you embrace the familiar while ensuring your work remains distinct and your own? Ramsay-Levi, who most recently worked at Louis Vuitton, is continuing her efforts to do just that with the Chloé Pre-Fall 2018 lookbook, which just came out yesterday.

The bags in the collection are a mix of current-favorite styles and bags that made their debut during Ramsay-Levi’s first runway presentation, Spring 2018. There are also some totally new styles, most notably a bucket bag that cinches at the top with a textile panel that extends up from the bag’s leather body. You can check out all the bags from the lookbook below.
