I don’t always love what Chanel shows, but I almost always adore the great length to which Karl Lagerfeld goes to show it. Few people in fashion are capable of envisioning a great spectacle in the way that he does for his over-the-top presentations, and they’re consistently a pleasure to watch, whether or not you enjoy the clothes.

Chanel’s presentation at Paris Fashion Week involved the importation of giant chunks of an iceberg from from Scandinavia, and the models splashed down the runway in appropriate cold-weather attire. Well, it was as appropriate as Chanel gets – there were several of what only can be accurately called Wookie suits, plus lots of other arctic attire in messy, frayed brown tweeds and faux fur (that’s right, all the fur in this show was fake).

About a third of the way into the show, the clothing got a little more wearable and some of the bags got seriously pretty. My personal favorites were the icebox clutches – although they may have not been the most practical bags shown (I think that award goes to the furry, tweedy backpacks), they were the ones that most accurately captured the frozen feeling of the collection and will probably make fantastic collector’s items in the future. On the whole, ome of the bags were bizarre, but if you can get past the faux fur then there was some beauty to behold.

    Ehh. Not feeling them.

Not quite feeling most of this collection… (Mostly the fur with tweed puts me off). But however, I do really like the ice clutch and other ice cube purses! They look very whimsical, they also kind of remind me “The Chronicles Of Narnia” for some reason, haha.

  • Stacy

The Chanel bags never intrigued me, they have always reminded me of an old lady’s bag. I am probably the only person here who does not like Chanel. Oh well, to each their own and so forth.

  • adah

I really didn´t like Chanel show…. The looks remind me a combinated show of Narnia visited by Chewbacca!
And the bags…well..ok! Obviously I loved the classical flap one with new material and the white&black one…
But the show itself…a bad joke from Largefeld :(

Didn’t Chanel DO icecube bags a couple of years ago?? (Remember Paris Hilton carrying one at some stage) They look similar to what they did before. I like their small evening clutches, particularly the white/black picture 18.

must everything have a logo on it?
some purses don’t feel like luxury anymore when ANYONE and EVERYONE tell who designed them.

The Chanel bag , ranging from the handbag, wallets, shoulder bag, to channel tote, actually, i don’t like every style of bags, but i like the color of black and white, and the style Chanel with fur and tassels. i think , many ladies like fur or tassels Chane1 bags.

  • KC

There is no logo on reissues :)
    I like the icebox clutch.

    love the ice bags

mmm its all a bit furry

  • ShoeQueen1961

I think I dislike these handbags more than I do the pompous Mr. Lagerfeld!!!

  • Lianne

Weird. Between the fur and the ice cubes, it looks like it’s a collection for winter, but winter is just ending.

    • Everything that has shown at the Fashion Weeks over the past month is intended for Fall/Winter. These clothes won’t be in stores for about 6 months, the shows are held (theoretically) for buyers and editors to see what the brands have created so that they can start the process of ordering them for retail (so the designers know how much to make) and requesting them for editorial use in magazines (to hype up the clothes before they hit stores at the end of summer). Fashion is a little wonky that way – everything shows out of season.

i’m not a big fan of the latest chanel collection.. too much fur, too much fake fur, like what’s next? pleather bags?! and the fur trousers are not practical, i only liked the short dresses and a few suits… as for the bags, it’s a hit/miss

  • amy

I liked the the overall structure of most of these bags,.. not a fan of the fur part..but the overall look is great. I love the icebox looks.

    chanel #18 I WANT!!

  • Rosecity

I liked many of the individual pieces, but as I was watching this show I was inwardly rooting for Chewbacca to present the final look.

Not feeling the above collection at all. Am glad that I recently went into fashionphile and bought a gorgeous pre-owned, vintage, mid 90s, Chanel totebag as I have not been impressed with too much of what Chanel has been doing, handbag wise, since the 80s and 90s. I seek out vintage 80s and 90s. My new, pre-owned bag, has gotten a lot of attention, as women are constantly stopping me here, in L.A., and commenting about it. And it’s in mint condition.

  • hect

i have to agree with other comments, i love chanel but logomania is long gone i have to say. i got the 2.55 happily when they came out with the vintage line because it has………… well no logo i feel they abuse it and for a house with such beautifull signature staples they dont need it all the time .

  • Keeks

I like the fluffy ones, a bit of fun that you don’t often get.

  • Fiona-Brazil

I am not very excited about any of the new styles shown. Chanel is quite expensive now, so instead of buying Chanel 10 for fun, I would rather save my money to buy something “more collectable”.

  • Phung

i love the models that looks like ice, like the clutch or the cube shaped bag, or the triangular one, but all the others, are kinda bleh, but i’m kinda fond of the one on the 12th row, on the right, the circular puffy, furry, one. that one seems kind of cute.

With the exception of the round white fur bag, this collection could use a bit of revamping. Perhaps a bit more tailoring and clean lines would help.

  • Issy

hmm the ones playing down the fur i love… the super fury ones are not for me (fb)

  • bonybynatur2003

Overall not a bad collection, IMO. Loved some, liked most, and disliked few. I personally have never seen the icecube idea done, and I kinda like it and thought it was unique. Since I do live in FL, I cant see me ever actually owning and carrying one, LOL! (fb)

The icy ones are love! (fb)

generally I love Chanel, but I’m not feeling this line quite as much as I normally do (fb)

Thanks for these pictures!! I was interested in the fall/winter 2010 bags and wanted close ups since I couldn’t see them well when I watched the fashion show online and these are perfect. Thanks!

  • Marie

Oui, j’adore Chanel! C’est magnique, tout le colecione! C’est super! J’adore, j’adore, j’adore la Chanel!

  • Priyanka

These bags can’t beat the classic flap at all…they will come and go but the classic will remain a classic.

  • Ira Martin
