When a newly revitalized Céline debuted the Luggage Tote in 2010 under the direction of industry heavyweight Phoebe Philo, it wasn’t immediately clear that the design would turn into the industry-altering heavyweight that it has. At first, the bag was relatively easily available on the stores of shelves that had carried the brand before its relaunch, and you could even buy it online. Then, everything changed.
It’s impossible to pinpoint exactly where the tipping point occurred, but the first time I remember really taking notice of the Luggage Tote, it was on the arm of an Olsen twin. The right moment of exposure from the right celebrity at the exact right time can change everything for a bag’s popularity, and soon after, the bags disappeared from online retailers and long waitlists replaced in-store stock.
In the intervening seasons, certain sizes have been discontinued and others introduced, prices have nearly doubled and new materials and colors abound. Because Céline is very cloak-and-dagger about all its products, we’ve assembled all the information on current sizes, prices, colors and leathers that we could for Spring 2015. We’ve surely missed some things, so if you have additional intel, leave it in the comments and we’ll investigate and update as needed. In particular, we need all the intel you have on the large Phantom–information on its pricing and availability is extremely scarce.

The Purse has sky-rocketed to almost everyone’s must have list. At first I wasn’t sure because it;s just one big bag. But now i love my Celine Tri-color. A hot item like this will only go up in price, just like all the other Must-Haves.

it is unappetizing that the more common the bag becomes (and everyone in Manhattan has a celine or a knock off celine) the more the price seems to sky rocket. I would rather have a lesser known exclusive bag for the same price.

I love the Céline purses. I think they are more subtle, beautiful handbags. I got one recently, and I love how so many people would tell me they loved my mini luggage, but they didn’t recognize the brand at all! Only Sales Associates at high end stores would recognize it. So in a way it was less flashy than carrying my LVs or Chanel. Yet out of all my purses I felt like it is the most grown up purse for me, personally. 🙂
They are slowly discontinuing the Large Phantoms which is why info is so scarce. That is what my Celine SA told me when I went to get my large phantom just this past September. I got a croc embossed large one which was $3750 USD so the regular calfskin large ones must be around $3450 ish, hope that helps! They only had 4 large ones left (3 after I got mine) and he said they were “steering away from the large size.”
I still can’t believe the price increase on these. I bought my Mini in 2011 so it was still relatively reasonably priced. I really can’t justify buying the bags at the current prices. The Nano, in particular, is ridiculous. Other options you could buy for that price (and change!):
– a medium Givenchy Antigona or Nightingale
– a Balenciaga Velo or City
– a Proenza Schouler mini PS11 in PYTHON. I repeat. In Python
– a Gucci Bamboo Shopper Tote
all, except for the exotic PS11, could fit three or maybe four Nanos inside.

I love the Celine Mini Luggage but mine has become softer and softer, it was starting to deform. I sold it away. The SA said Palmelato solves this problem. Anyone can testify?
I love this post, thanks a lot there is so much confusion on the Boston bag, micro, nano etc. that I so much appreciate the clarity of this one. This said I must confess that the price is, for me, justified by the huge success and the huge request that this “product” had/has. Everybody and I say everybody (even Prada, shame on you) copied this “icon”, and I like the fact that the original is always the best (even if I do not buy it for the ridiculous weight, I can’t carry it). I heard that the Large Phantom is now only available in Europe, but I don’t know if that’s 100% true. Also, Neiman Marcus has multicolor nanos for $2,900.

Many Celine bags under on offer at Saks in Greenwich, but I’m not sure if that was true a year ago when you wrote your comment. Definitely feels like Celine luggage totes and trapeze bags are almost over in popularity. I was obsessed with Celine for a long time but would no longer buy one today.
I eventually fell for the PS1 (after it had been out for a few years), but for some reason, I cannot get into these bags. I just find them ugly for lack of a better word.

When I purchased a red Celine mini in July 2011 it was $1,700.00. The price increases are insane.
So glad I got 3 Micros at $1500s each before these prices. I loved & enjoy them to bits. Now, I refuse to spend at these price range.

But as iconic as it has become these past few years, something tells me that it will not last. Definitely not Chanel-like lasting anyway. And when I spend so much money on a handbag I have to be sure that even my grand children will like it (when and if I have grand children… My daughter is presently only 4 yrs old)!

You’re probably right Donna. But passing down my handbags to my grandkids was a figurative idea. I wanted to point out (maybe with the wrong example) that I prefer to buy bags that hold on to their value!
I bet that if your grandmother gave you a vintage Chanel jumbo flap you would be thrilled! Am I wrong? If nothing else, it would be like she literally gave you a check of almost 4K$!!!
That’s the thing – the Chanel jumbo flap looks like a total grandma bag! If you aren’t trying to show off your money, you want what you like instead of what looks like it’s probably expensive As far as it being worth 4k, I’d rather have the check than deal with selling the bag. Sales are a pain.
Basically, just buy what you love! Don’t buy for people far off in the future (including potential buyers). You’re better off putting money into an index fund. The bags are depreciating assets no matter what when adjusting for inflation and deducting platform sales fees.

If I remember correctly, drummed leather has suede while smooth leather has leather inside.
I can’t understand the difference between the gold words on the bag, when they are on the bag and when they aren’t
They are on the mini, micro, and nano luggage. If the hardware is silver the Celine is silver and same for gold. The Phantoms have the Celine stamp indented in the leather. However some versions of the python bags have no stamp on the outside and it’s on the inside.

I purchased my Micro in Italy this February.. it was 1,950 euros plus you get the VAT taxes back in the airport so I only spent about 1,650 euro. With the exchange rate, you can buy your flight to europe AND the bag and still save compared to the price in the USA.

I have a tricolor micro and i love it but I need a strap like the nano has anyone tried to have drinks sewn on and get a strap so you can wear it hands free. The micro is small enough that a strap won’t look silly as with the bigger sizes. I love it but sometimes I can’t wear hanging from my arm especially with kids or shopping etc. I wish celine added a strap bag would be versatile.
I have found a place in NYC that says they can do it and make me a strap to match the celekne but nervous Becuase I don’t want to ruin it? Any opinions ideas or feedback
