Celebrities    The Many Bags Of

The Many Bags of Alanis Morissette

There are some celebrities who we expect to constantly carry great bags. Victoria Beckham, for example, who is always styled to the nines and has her own incredibly chic line of accessories, is never without a great handbag. Or the Olsen Twins, who have largely left Hollywood behind to focus on being tried-and-true fashion professionals (with the zany wardrobe to match). And then there are those celebrities who have great bags, but in an entirely predictable way. Jessica Alba has an enviable collection if you really love tan, specifically tan Chloe. If you prefer Louis Vuitton, Kimora Lee Simmons is your girl. Birkins? Look no further than Kim Kardashian or Petra Ecclestone.

But what if you, like most of us, regard yourself as a normal, casual girl who loves bags. Bags of all kinds, shapes, sizes, whatever! If your idea of a perfect outfit is jeans, a sweater and something truly fabulous hanging from your arm at all times, then your style role model should be Alanis Morissette. Yep, you heard me correctly. And I’ve got the photos to prove it.

In the process of writing posts for our sister site BagThatStyle, I was surprised to find so many pictures of Alanis looking great. Not that I ever thought that there was anything wrong with her – to the contrary, I’ve been a fan for a long time – but Morissette’s image has never been that of someone who pays close attention to fashion. Indeed, paparazzi photos reveal her as someone who prefers a more comfortable and casual look, but she’s got it down to a science and generally looks great – happy, confident, and on the harm of her adorable husband.

And then there’s the bags, everything from The Row to Balenciaga to Hermes. From the looks of it, Alanis doesn’t have a favorite designer – she merely loves any bag that’s fabulous, and her taste in arm candy is impeccable. Below are some of the highlights, which read like an instruction manual on how to mix your awesome bags with your favorite jeans. I think I have a new girl crush.

The Yves Saint Laurent Easy Bag is as good a place to start as any. $1190 via Nordstrom.

And what about a little more YSL? The Yves Saint Laurent Caba ChYc is a recent favorite. $2150 via Net-a-Porter.

When you’re carrying The Row Leather Backpack, it’s a foregone conclusion that your bag will be chicer than your husband’s. $3900 via Net-a-Porter.

In this photo, Alanis is quite pregnant and carrying a quite petite Chanel Classic Flap Bag in bright red. Contact Chanel for pricing information.

Now this might be something really special. From this photo, it appears as though Alanis is the owner of one of the incredibly coveted, decade-old Balenciaga Flat Brass First Bags. Could it be that she really IS one of us? Current edition Balenciaga Firsts go for $1245 via Neiman Marcus.

This bag is out of season, but I think we have get another Yves Saint Laurent Tote on our hands.

The webbing on this Gucci Boston Satchel adds a touch of color. $1350 via Neiman Marcus.

Prefer your Gucci completely neutral? Alanis has that covered with the Gucci 1973 Top Handle. $2090 via Neiman Marcus.

Alanis seems to like her bags neutral, but when she goes for color, she goes all in. Take this cobalt blue Givenchy Antigona Satchel, for instance. $2410 via Bergdorf Goodman.

Generally, though, it seems as though Alanis prefers neutrals like this black Chanel Classic Flap. Contact Chanel for price and purchase information.

It was this Proenza Schouler PS1 Tote that made me realize Alanis is really a girl after my own heart. $1995 via Bergdorf Goodman.

Of course, any collection’s crowning glory is always Hermes. The casual look of the Hermes Evelyne Crossbody fits well with Alanis’ personal style. Contact Hermes for price and purchase information.
