Five Luxe Items I m Eyeing for Spring

With March in full swing, Spring is finally here. NYC has already seen some sunny days and temperatures well above freezing. The days are getting just a little bit longer (and lighter), signaling that it’s time to get our warm-weather wardrobes in order. This is the time of year when I like to splurge on one or two luxury pieces to elevate the items already in my closet, and I’ve got a long list of things I’m eyeing.

That list just got a little longer, thanks to spring new arrivals, which are full of designer items worthy of a good splurge. Here’s why: cost per wear. The most important factor I consider when making a designer purchase is how much I’ll wear it. If it’s something I’d use time and time again, it’s well worth the high price tag.

Below are five items on my luxury lust list that I’d wear on repeat this season.

Balenciaga Rodeo Bag

The ultimate cool-girl carryall, this bag is on every fashion girl’s want list this year, including myself. I’d pair it with a baseball cap and sneakers for my daily coffee run or a kitten heel and low-slung jeans for a night out. I love this burgundy hue because it’s virtually seasonless, meaning you can easily wear it year-round.

Alaïa Cube Wedge Sandal

SO chic. Need I say more?

Acne Studios Knot Dress

This dress is sneakily versatile, offering so many ways of styling. Pair it with tall boots on cooler spring days or a kitten heel for hot summer days in the city (or with the Alaïas above!). I’d even style it with sneakers for a cool downtown vibe.

This isn’t the first time I’ve talked about this dress, and for good reason. The silhouette is fairly simple but super flattering. The knots, inspired by Japanese obi sashes and also seen on Acne’s Musubi bag, add a fun detail. I was eyeing the yellow at first, but the black might get more use.

Jacquemus Les Duelo Mismatched Croc Embossed Kitten Heel Slingback

There’s something so elegant about a kitten heel, and the Croc print, coupled with the mismatched geometric details, also adds a hint of cool. These are a true statement-maker and are perfect for nights when you can’t decide what to wear. I’d throw on jeans or a sleek trouser with a basic top and let my shoes do the talking.

Another Tomorrow Soft Trench

A classic trench coat is a wardrobe must, and this one is just so good. I already own a trench in beige that I’ve worn to death, so I know this would get an insane amount of use too. The drop shoulders and effortless slouch would elevate any look you pair it with.

Balenciaga? Really?
How quickly people forget….

PheartD

Exactly. People like – Andrew – just don’t get it.

Andrew

True. I don’t get q-anon either. I’m good with that.

Anonymous7

Oh yeah. As long as Demna’s involved, it’s a hard pass.

Andrew

The campaign was tasteless but ultimately harmless, pulled, and umpteen apologies and donations were made. The weird, conspiratorial satanic panic that resulted and clearly persists to this day is at this point embarrassing.

The idea that “canceling” a luxury fashion brand is somehow preventing child abuse is so absurd I… I mean where to start? Are people that deluded and self-righteous? Just bonkers.

Becky

And I’m going to be honest, my first impression of that campaign was “gothed-up teddy bears” rather than “they’re trying to market S&M to children.”

Susan

AGREED! let it go. So over the virtue signaling.

Kelleypuppy

Agreed! Yuck!

Kel

Rodeo bag is overpriced and TERRIBLE quality.

Fancyfree

Love the Rodeo style 😍 and am so very angry 😡 that they have chosen to make it in such unbelievably poor quality 🤬

Bryn

Same. It literally feels like Target.

Raquelle

I’m obsessed with the Rodeo. A completely functional bag that looks chic. I have been dying for a bag that has a ton of hidden pockets/compartments for storage and such, but I did not want it to look too utilitarian. I agree with your claim.

Kaly

I have the medium Rodeo in black and I LOVE it! The leather is gorgeous, I find the quality to be excellent. No regrets!

Thefashionableteacher

Those shoes look cool. But, they also look like they hurt.

lalarey

I actually remember the early aughts. I cannot wrap my head around calling platform or wedge flip flops chic.

Susan

I’ve worn my Rodeo most days since early fall and totally disagree with the poor quality claims. I do not baby my bags at all, and there isn’t a single scratch or issue. It looks brand new. In fact, I just purchased the new Pochette version and will be using my long strap with it as a crossbody. Love them both!

pjhm

Absolutely love the trench coat.

This article reminds me of the Who What Wear articles.

That trench is badass though. Just gorgeous.
