Botkier Copper Convertible Hobo

If there’s anything that I know handbag designers have been inspired by throughout the years, it’s the classic black doctor’s satchel. As a young girl, I’d ask my dad why he didn’t have one and he answered that they were outdated, among other reasons. But that specific reason has been proved incorrect; while not many doctors use the bags, fashionistas the world around have adopted it with glee. Enter the most modern reincarnation: the Botkier Copper Convertible Hobo.

Hammitt Los Angeles Topanga Studded Hobo

Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to take you back in time for a moment. The year is 2005, I’m still in college, and I stumble across PurseBlog while looking for information on a reasonably priced brown bag to add to my collection. And by “my collection,” I mean the one quasi-expensive handbag that I already had. What I found here and eventually purchased was the Isabella Fiore Whip Flash Audra Hobo, a bag that got me more compliments than any other I’ve ever owned, in any price range.

Flash forward to the present, I’m now a full-time employee and that bag has long since left my collection (although I wish I still had it from time to time). But it looks as though I may have a second chance of sorts, since the Hammitt Los Angeles Topanga Studded Hobo appears to be its 2009 twin.

Diane von Furstenberg Marisa Draped Wrap Hobo

Diane von Furstenberg has definitely made her way into the handbag world. Starting with the uber-popular Stephanie Bag DvF bags have gained international popularity. Admittedly, I was much more into DvF clothes until the Stephanie Bag graced me with its presence. I’ve been waiting patiently to see if the creative department at DvF would be able to churn out more handbags that would peak my interest as much as the Stephanie Bag did. Lucky for me, they have.

Cleobella Nevaeh Drawstring Bag

At first, I didn’t even want to write about the Cleobelle Nevaeh Drawstring Bag. I saw it and immediately dismissed it – after a certain point, writing yet another post about how much I hate neo-hippie crap isn’t even fun anymore, which is sad, because writing about stuff you hate is a lot easier than writing about stuff you like, trust me.

But then…I looked harder…and maybe this isn’t neo-hippie crap after all? Is that possible? I mean, it’s definitely neo-hippie, but is it possible that it’s simultaneously well-edited and kind of…nice? All of this is kind of painful to admit, but I’m going to do my best after the jump.

As seen on Gossip Girl: Valentino Shining Flower Tux 360 Tote

Valentino Shining Flower Tux 360 Tote

Gossip Girl was a repeat last night, and you do not even want to hear the string of profanity that came out of my mouth when I realized the kind of shenanigans that they were trying to perpetrate on me, and right before the holidays and everything. Don’t they know who they’re dealing with here?!?!

Ahem. Well, even though this all means that we can’t have a Gossip Girl recap, it doesn’t mean that I still can’t make a post that’s tangentially related to the show. I can and I will! And it just so happens that the Valentino Shining Flower Tux 360 Tote, which was the subject of a major plot point during Trip Vanderbilt’s election a few weeks ago, has now become available for pre-order.

Beirn Jenna Hand-Painted Tote

Beirn will always be a noticeable and recognizable brand to me because they use an especially unique and fresh medium for their bags; the watersnake. I’ve rarely seen a watersnake bag or accessory that is not Beirn, and this Beirn Jenna Hand-Painted Tote reaffirms the attraction that so many feel to this brand.

Cole Haan Bailey East/West Zipper Tote

When I first scrolled past the Cole Haan Bailey East/West Zipper Tote in the New Arrivals section of Saks.com, I honestly assumed it was a Jimmy Choo bag. It’s got the look that they’ve been using recently – similar tote structure, similarly textured leather, some gathering and gold hardware. I was fully convinced.

But it’s not, obviously. It’s a Cole Haan bag, and a reasonably nice-looking one at that. The fact that I readily believed that I was looking at a bag that would probably cost nearly five times as much as this one does is probably indication enough that the designers of this one did a good job.
