Donna Karan Modern Aries Bag

Donna Karan Modern Aries Bag The last and only time I covered a Donna Karan Bag was a little over three years ago. Three years! And the bag was really not all that impressive, in fact, I told you all (at the time a much small ‘all) that I would use the Donna Karan clutch … Read more

News on Purse Blog

First off I have to say thank you for being so patient with our sporadic, random, and lack of postings this week. I caught a nasty flu-like, incessant headache, cold/flu/virus and have not quite been myself. Luckily we have had our new writer, Amanda, there to pick up some slack.

Vlad and I wanted to update you on some Purse Blog and Purse Forum happenings (really, we should check in more often!). We are working on a site re-design that we both are awaiting like kids giddy for Christmas morning. We love our design now, but it is time to bring it up a notch and phase out the colorful and funky designs and bring in a more sophisticated magazine look. Vlad is working with our design team to get this up and running in the soonish future. I always want the results much sooner than they can be delivered, so I am thinking sometime in August. The new design will also be incorporated into the Purse Forum.

Kanye West’s Custom Vuitton Backpack

One of the perks of being an A-list entertainer is that you can get the high end fashion brands to make cool, custom gear for you. Kanye recently unveiled this custom, oversized Louis Vuitton Damier Azure Backpack on his blog. The backpack features LV’s signature Damier Canvas print with light brown leather trim and supposedly, … Read more

3.1 Phillip Lim’s Omai Pleated Shoulder Bag

Some designers are world famous for their handbags, and some just aren’t. The average fashion fan can probably spot a Louis Vuitton or Balenciaga bag a mile away, but may be hard pressed to describe the latest ready-to-wear from either brand. Alternately, some brand that are heralded widely for their clothing lines have accessories that … Read more

Tory Burch Resin Clutch

Tory Burch is known for her ballet flats (over done but I absolutely love them!). Then there is the casual and comfortable clothing, that I am obsessed with as it is perfect for Florida, and a less known staple but a growing mark from Tory, her handbags. And while many of her handbags only seem fitting for a beach bag, it is the Tory Burch Resin Clutches that have caught my attention recently. There are many major perks to these clutches. First off, you have to be the messiest and most unlucky person in the world to ruin it by spilling anything on it. The clutches will wipe off nearly anything, making them ideal for a bar or any situation where someone may spill (which is indeed often). The size is perfect for your hand hand, 4.5″H x 8″L x 1″D. Then there is the plethora of colors; every option to suit your fancy, just like her Ballet Flats. The look is simple, yet modern with the sleek gleam of resin and ribbed texture. There is a Tory Burch logo medallion on the front and snap closure. I’ll take one!

Nancy Gonzalez Hobo

Nancy Gonzalez Crocodile Hobo

If you’ve never seen and held a Nancy Gonzalez bag in person, I have a homework assignment for you this weekend: go to the mall and spend some time with Ms. Gonzalez’s bags. They’re exceptionally pricey, no doubt about it, but hear me out on this one, mmkay?

Almost every bag she puts her name on is made of crocodile, at least partially justifying the steep price. There are no filler materials, and the exceptional skins take center stage with very limited visible hardware and few outward accouterment. It’s almost as if she’s saying, “Hey you guys, look how much croc I’m giving you for the money!” If there’s any sort of rhyme or reason to my bag selections, it’s probably that I want a gorgeous piece of leather, a great shape and not a whole lot of extras, and Ms. Gonzalez seems to be right with me.

Review: Valextra Boston Bag

Valextra continues to forge its way up the handbag rankings, moving past the trendy logo bags and sitting peacefully in between the Chanel’s and Hermes’ of the world. The elegance that is Valextra can be seen in person, as you touch, feel, and carry the handbag. I recently covered the Valextra Babila, but this handbag did not bring enough forward for many of you. Too simple, too plain, not enough attention catching oomph. But the Valextra Boston Bag has all that you need in a classy handbag; it is timeless, chic, sophisticated, supple, logo free, light weight perfection. Yes, perfection.

Ray Ban Wrap Aviator Sunglasses

Ray Ban Wrap Aviator Sunglasses

There are certain people out there in the fashion ether (most notably some folks at the paper of record, The New York Times), that think sunglasses are the new handbags. I find the idea of one inanimate material good being the ‘new’ other inanimate material good kind of inane and annoying, but hey, they’ve got to fill up their Style section with something, I suppose.

But, if you’re going to buy in to the NYT’s ridiculous assertion that sunglasses are the new must-have accessory (were sunglasses ever NOT must-have? Don’t they perform an important, practical function?), I whole-heartedly suggest that you start by finding the perfect aviator for your face.

Burberry Gold Stud Bags

Burberry Gold Stud Bags

Burberry handbags may be actively trying to get away from their signature nova check image, well, sort of. While the preppy nova check pattern is recognizable from miles away, the brand has been striving to bring something new to the table, and attempting to revamp the brand and give the younger, hipper crowd something to swoon over. That is precisely what the Burberry Warrior Bag was supposed to do, but it ended up causing a ruckus with a struggle between love and hate. People either absolutely loved the edgy and funky style or absolutely abhorred it all. To be honest, I loved the bag, but refused to buy it at the price. So I am Warrior-less.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Doctor’s Bag

Marc by Marc Jacobs Groovee Doctor’s Bag Remember when Amanda brought you the luscious purple Marc by Marc Bag? You all loved it so much that the store sold out from Amanda’s post. Yes, that bag. The $17,000 Chanel Bicycle

When I reported on the $3,500 Hermes bike two weeks ago, I had the feeling that we had not reached the pinnacle in cyclist decadence just yet. Karl Lagerfeld to the rescue! This Limited Edition Chanel Bike is the ultimate in two-wheeled novelty. With only 50 made and less than 20 available in the US, this creation retailed for $17,000, with reseller markups hitting $28,000 already.
