The buzz building around Gerard Darel is a force to be reckoned with. Our forum has been known to catapult bags into stardom, with thousands of posts surrounding one subject and the ability to create an enormous awareness of a new brand. The new kid on the block, as far as being discussed ad nauseum on tPF, is Gerard Darel. Now don’t get me wrong, the brand has been holding its own for years now, but to the US customers they are more of an underground sensation. We discussed the Drape in 2005 and no one was satiated. The craving for more from Gerard Darel is expected, as the brand utilizes a slouchy shape with brilliant leather and a casual feel. If you are in the US you are mostly out of luck in tracking down this designer, except for a few eBoutiques who carry some of the line, like Delcina. When I was in Spain last month my mom and I were on a wild goose chase at each and every El Corte Ingles (department store) that said they carried Gerard Darel bags. They lied. A Gerard Darel bag was no where to be found. But where I constantly see Gerard Darel bags is on celebrities, namely Eva Longoria. She is practically a walking Gerard Darel ad, carrying their bags in an array of colors and then bringing python into the mix. Other lovers of Gerard Darel include Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie, and Lindsay Lohan. My new obsession from Gerard Darel is the Midday Midnight Barcelona Bag, which is available in glazed leather and python. Hermes Kelly Long Wallet

Time to put an end to the suspense. We previously teased you with the orange box, now it’s time to show off the goods. This being Megs’ first dive into Hermes exotics, the Hermes Kelly Long Wallet (officially: Money Holder) in orange matte alligator is the quintessential combination of skin and tone from the House of Hermes. Megs had been contemplating to go exotic with Hermes for a while – when our Hermes SA contacted us and we learned about this beauty’s immediate availability, there was not much hesitation. The wallet is made from matte Mississippi alligator and dyed in Hermes’ signature orange color. The gator version is denoted by the small square printed by the Hermes logo. This exotic skin is mainly reserved for Hermes’ smaller leather goods, larger bags are very rare in alligator.

This Kelly Long variety also comes in other leathers. It is available in mysore goatskin, box calf and epsom calfskin in a broad variety of colors. Prices for the regular leather versions range around $2,350. Needless to say, this exotic version is a wee bit more expensive. Inquire with your local Hermes boutique if interested.

Treesje Bags

We are always on the hunt for the next big designers emerging in the handbag and purse world. Many times I don’t even have to search, as the designers and their ever-growing popularity comes to me. Continually seeing talk on Treesje on our Purse Forum, I realized it was time to look into the designers. It was quite fitting then that soon after I was introduced to their line, Vlad and I were invited to an event at Saks in NYC where the designers from Treesje, Laura Darrah and Sheila Nazarian, would be making an appearance. Treesje proves to be one of the strongest up and comers, offering casual styles with a wide variety of bold colors. The style of the bags are very laid-back, very LA, just like the designers behind the brand. Vlad and I first met Sheila and we all hit it off. She was so easy to talk to that I could see us being lunch buddies if we did not live approximately 2348 miles apart. PB: Where did you come up with your unique name, Treesje?

Treesje: We were both bridesmaids in a mutual friends wedding and we took the bride’s middle name. She was named about her moms best friend who is Treesje and she is from Australia.

PB: How did you decide to get into handbags?

Treesje: Well Laura has a business background and I have a fine arts background. I don’t know, it kind of fell into our laps. Laura was traveling around the world and she came back from Bali and she had these really cute beaded bags. I told her “I could sell those for you like crazy!!”. And one thing lead to another; we just started with these beaded bags and one day I called her up and said “Why don’t we design our own bags?”. So it was the matter of finding the leather and getting things going.

This ambitious model was the face of Burberry and Giorgio Armani campaign, though she was recently dropped from Burberry. On top of these two campaigns Deyn was the face of the S/S 2007 Mulberry campaign. This launched her into having a Mulberry Bag named after her, the Mulberry Agyness Bag. This bag is simply chic, just as Agyness is. The supple putty leather covers this spacious shoulder bag with a signature Mulberry plate clasp on the front strap. There are double top handles and the bag provides the perfect slouch to be thrown over your arm.
