Here at PurseBlog, we are generally of the opinion that trends should be secondary to wearing things that you love and that makes you feel wonderful, no matter what the fashion industry wants you to wear, but since we’re a fashion blog, we sort of have to cover them. And although I may not be a big lover of orange for a variety of reasons, it’s going to be difficult to avoid the hue in a couple months’ time.

Once I saw the Yves Saint Laurent Roady Hobo in what the brand calls “flame,” I knew that there was no escaping the onslaught of orange. My sales associate at Jeffrey told me that they had ordered a lot of orange and coral for spring, and since the boutique’s owner Jeffrey Kalinsky is also an executive vice president at Nordstrom, it’s safe to say that orange will be showing up there as well, not to mention in every other department store in existence. Brights had a moment on the Spring 2011 runways in what seemed like a direct response to Fall 2010’s neutral palette, and fiery shades in particular look to be among the biggest winners of the season.

My skin tone generally prefers to be paired with magentas, violets and cobalts when it comes to brights, but if you’d like to incorporate orange into your spring purchases without having to worry about what kind of undertones in might bring out in your natural color, a handbag is a relatively safe way to do it. Since the Roady is a simple, classic shape, the odds of you looking like a total trend-chaser are relatively minimal, and as far as oranges go, even I can admit that the color is rather lovely. Buy through Bergdorf Goodman for $1295.

I love orange!! I don’t have any orange bags because my clothes tend to be bright and hence my bags are much more neutral. I have LOTS of orange in my closet.

The tote is nice but not my style. I do love the color though. Yay orange!

I have an orange handbag by Kenneth Cole that I use year round. It is beautiful. I love orange handbags, but they can be done so wrong and in the wrong shade. I can’t wait to see this in person because I love it in the picture.

Orange clothes look terrible on me as well and I agree that an orange purse is a good way to incorporate the color into your wardrobe. Orange can be really versatile too and depending on the color can work in winter or spring.

  • Lorie

I actually love this orange. I think it will be fun for spring and summer. Makes me want to go to the beach.

    • Lorie

I wanted to add that I would worry about this bag though. I really don’t like how the handle is connected to the bag. Looks like the hook would slip out or break possibly.

      • michelle

I have this bag. The shoulder strap cannot come out. The closure is smaller than the loop on the bag.

  • kemilia

I love orange, this bag looks great. Orange is such a great pop of color (though maybe it shouldn’t be worn with black–too Halloweenie).

  • 19yearslater

I don’t like coral but I love bright orange. I could get on board with this trend for sure.

  • shueaddict

the orange bug is a must for me for summer, always with white dresses. I need to see the leather up close, the standard Roady leather could be a little thin

    • Yo Ma

Yep, orange BUGS are a must for you. I bet you love having those nasty critters in your purse eh? Crawling and sleeping inside your essentials… lol.

  • Vitta

Love the YSL Roady (sleek and timeless) and like this shade of tangerine orange (as shown), which should mix well with neutrals. Hope it looks the same in person.

  • annabelle

omg that is such a gorgeous color!
that seriously would go well with my illamasqua lipstick hahaha <3

  • Kris

oh..i cannt resist orange…though i already have 5 orange bags.this one still draw my attention!

  • Staci

The color is gorgeous! Love the orange and would totally buy it for spring/summer.

  • Mishie

    Pretty!

  • Lala

Love the bag but I would buy it in orange.

Taupe, black or navy would be my best choice this way I could get multiple use out of it.

  • Stacy

Being fair skinned the corals and oranges look terrific with my skin tone. With that being said though, I have never owned either color in a purse. Strange. I need to rectify that slight oversight beginning with this bag! LOVE IT!!! I have so many things this will go well with.

    Oooh honey….

  • window of happiness

Nice color! Love to have one! I always love bright than neutral color in my bag closet. I just know by now while reading your post that we have colors to compliment with the skin type even brights!. Hopefully what picks I am having right now will compliment my yellow complexion. Love this bag though.

  • Stylista

Yes yes, the colour is rather lovely. I like it!

i love orange because i can pair it with brown and white. i have lots of orange SLGs since it’s easy to find in a big bag with dark linings.

  • Karin bag4bag

I already have a bright orange bag in my collection. I don’t think I could handle two ! Love your one though.

  • Julie

Well Hermes of course has been making orange handbags forever! I have one – never thought I’d like orange in a bag – and it is gorgeous. Really would suggest thinking about it even if you are very hesitant – it works really well with a neutral wardrobe. Like others, orange doesn’t suit my skin tone, but in a bag, adds a great splash of colour.

I have been wearing orange bags for the past 2 years. I have a Gerard Darel in Tangerine and a nordstrom leather hobo in bright orange. I love the color it’s my summer red. Coach is coming out with a Fire Sophia I bet after hearing this it’s orange red.
