Working at PurseBlog is pretty great. Not only is there free coffee in the office kitchen, but we basically get to online shop all day in pursuit of the finest shiny things that the Internet has to offer. Often those things are handbags, but in the process, we also bump up against some non-handbag things that we’d really like to max out our credit cards to have. We’ve been doing our weekly Want It Wednesday roundups for a while, but now we’ve made them bigger than ever – there’s just too much stuff to lust after, this week and always. Below, I, along with Katherine and Bea, have picked our favorites for the week.
Want It Wednesday(Page 5)
How, you ask, do we have time to find new Fall 2013 things that we’re craving amid all the Spring 2014 Fashion Week fervor? Easy – we’re professionals. Professional thing-wanters, if nothing else. (Not a bad gig if you can get it.) This week for Want It Wednesday, we’ve managed to sit still long enough to find some stuff we’d like to put on our credit cards rightthisveryminute, and we’d also like to welcome back someone who you guys might remember as Intern Katherine – she’s a full-fledged, college-graduated human now, and a full-time member of the PurseBlog team!
If you’ve been following along with the collections at New York Fashion Week, you know that things going forward are looking a little more streamlined, a little modern. I, for one, am breathing a sigh of relief – this stuff is much more my speed, compared to the bling-and-brights look that fashion’s had going for the past few seasons. To incorporate that kind of slick, well-edited design into my wardrobe right this very minute, I’m lusting after the Rachel Zoe Faceted Bar Bracelet. The squared-off shape is just unexpected enough to draw a bit of attention, but the pared-down look epitomizes a simplified version of style that seems so appealing right now. Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $250.
The second the chilly fall air arrives, you can bet I’ll be snuggling into plenty of oversized sweaters. With summer recently coming to an end, most New York City residents put away all their colorful clothes and go straight for their black winter attire, but not me. As a native Florida girl, I like to wear color for as long as it’s deemed acceptable. Searching for an appropriate colorful sweater for fall can be a bit of a struggle, but thanks to this 3.1 Phillip Lim Zim-Trimmed Techno Neoprene Sweatshirt, I’ve met my match. It’s bold, bright and can easily pair with a skinny black or printed pant. Now the question is, how can I make it mine? If you’re in the need for neoprene you can purchase this sweatshirt for $525 via Net-a-Porter.
There is something about a good wallet that really makes me a happy person. I mean, when you think about it, wallets might get even more use than some of your handbags. That’s why always keep my eye out for a new one. This week, I have my eye on the Chloe Aurore Wallet. The rose calfskin leather is simply gorgeous. Like any well-crafted wallet, when you open it, you’ll find a zipper pouch and plenty of storage. Plus, the signature padlock adds a unique touch. I’d be more than happy to swap out my current wallet for this one! Buy through Nordstrom for $620.
While we may be having summer-like weather here in NYC at the moment, I am yearning for the day when I can wear all of my fall apparel. That day may not be today, but I can dream, can’t I? And while I’m at it, I’ll also be dreaming about this Gucci Fur-Trimmed Wool & Silk Shawl. Fall is by far my favorite season because most fall styles exemplify effortless elegance. If we accessorize correctly, a pair of skinny jeans, boots, and an oversized top instantly look urbane. That’s why I am going gaga for this Gucci shawl. I will admit, sometimes oversized pieces are hard to pull off, especially on petite frames (I am only 4’11″), but because this is a layering piece, anyone can carry this look. Until the weather cooperates and my purse strings expand, I will just keep dreaming. Buy through Saks for $1,250.
After 10 days of vacation, including this past Monday to celebrate Labor Day, I’m completely disoriented. It’s Wednesday, you say? I’ll take your word for it. You could tell me I was on Mars and I’d probably consider it fact for at least a split second. I’m inclined to believe it’s Wednesday, though, because that means it’s time for our first post-summer Want It Wednesday, and the PurseBlog team is craving some great fall essentials. (more…)
I can’t believe another week is more than halfway done. I’m not sure if I’ve been particularly busy this week or the last bits of summer are just slipping away more quickly than I’d like them to, but it seems like this week’s Want It Wednesday has come around at light speed. Below, find out what the PurseBlog team is craving today. (more…)
You guys, it’s August 14. Halfway through August. How did that happen? It seems like between all the complaining about sweat and sunburns and our inability to find the perfect straw bag, summer has just up and left us. It was 60 degrees this morning! Not that I’m complaining about that last part, of course, but I’m not sure that I’m psychologically prepared for the passing of another season. That being said, our Want It Wednesday picks are the perfect way to get ready for fall.
I do a lot of objectively dumb things to my hair. I bleach big sections of it in order to dye it bright purple, which has to be re-bleached at the root every eight weeks. My hair is naturally quite curly, so I blow it out and then flat iron it at least three times a week, but I’ve been going to the gym a lot lately, so now I do it even more. It’s summer, so my hair has been subjected to plenty of sun and a little bit of salt water in the past few months, too, not to mention a daily onslaught of summer subway sweat, which is an unpleasant reality of living in New York City. Over the years, I’ve assembled a small army of products to help fight off as much of the attendant damage to my hair as possible, and the next one I’d like to pick up is the Oribe Signature Moisture Mask. I went to an Oribe salon for about a year, and all of the company’s products are top-notch (not to mention that they all smell incredible). This masque looks like a big, creamy pot of hair loveliness to me. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $59.
As summer begins to dwindle down, I’ve come to the realization that my bright-colored satchels and straw tote bags will soon go back into the closet for yet another season, and I will need a new bag for fall, stat. As New Yorkers, we are immediately drawn to buying a black bag, because, well, we love black, but here at PurseBlog headquarters, we think it’s way more fun to do color. That’s why this week, I’m lusting over this Marc Jacobs 1984 Satchel in Chianti. It’s a beautiful shade of deep, dark red that will pair perfectly with just about anything. It’s a great size bag that can easily transition from a day at the office to a nice dinner afterward – now if only someone would get it for me. If you’d like to, you can purchase it via Bloomingdales for $1,495.
I think my subconscious is trying to tell me something. If you follow our Want it Wednesday feature, you might remember that I recently picked out a few Alexander McQueen accessories. Well, today, I am doing the same. As I was perusing the accessories selection at farfetch.com, I came across this Alexander McQueen Skeleton Bracelet and I was immediately fixated. The gold-tone skeleton holding a red glass stone embellishment packs just the right kind of edge. I personally would make this bracelet the statement piece of my outfit by wearing it with something understated – the gold would pop against a solid color. Plus, each time I looked at it, I would pretend I actually had just a bit of a bad girl side after all. Buy through farfetch.com for $545.50.
Like we say every Wednesday – we made it! We’re halfway to another weekend, so let’s celebrate with another Want It Wednesday. This week, the PurseBlog team has found a full set of little luxurious to lust after, and this time they’re all under $300. (more…)
We made it! It’s hump day! Try not to get that GEICO camel’s hump day chant stuck in your head, but now that I’ve said it, that’s totally what’s going to happen, isn’t it? Sorry. All I can offer by the way of an apology is a list of things that those of us around the PurseBlog offices are lusting after this week. It’s Want It Wednesday, after all. (more…)
Wednesday afternoon means that we’ve made it more than halfway through a work week that can seem interminable when summer fun is waiting on the weekends, so we all deserve a little reward, right? It also means that today is Want It Wednesday, so below you’ll find all the items that the PurseBlog team is considering rewarding itself with this week.
For weeks I’ve been hearing rave reviews about this “little miracle” face oil. Normally I’d be hesitant to try oil on my face, but it appears that some people swear by this stuff. The Ila Face Oil for Glowing Radiance regenerates the skins cells, leaving your skin soft and glowy. The oil can be used as a makeup primer, which is always useful in the summertime when makeup tends to not last very long long. Not to mention that it’s rose-scented (yum!) and it helps fight wrinkles and improves the texture of your skin. If you’re as curious to try this cult favorite as I am, you can purchase it for $110 via Net-a-Porter.
As y’all might have noticed, I’m a writer, and writers tend to be a group of people who are very precious about the tools of their trade. Despite the fact that I write online for a living, I still have a pen cup full of the only two types of pens I find acceptable sitting next to my computer and a reporter’s notebook at the ready, lest I should actually need to jot something down in real life. At home, I jot quite a lot of things down, and from here on out, I’d like to be doing it in the beautifully textiled Weston Heaven Calcite Notebook. It doesn’t get much prettier than this swirling red-to-purple print. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $68.
I know, I know. Typically, we each pick one item we really want and share it with you all. However, I can’t help myself. I *really* want two things this week. And since they are both Alexander McQueen, I figured you all might go easy on me and over look my excessive wanting.
In recent years, I’ve realized how much a belt can take any outfit to the next level. That being the case, I do find myself making a conscious effort to add more belts to my looks. This Alexander McQueen Wide Leather Waist Belt is a perfect example of why. Gorgeous black leather with quilted detailing and gold hardware come together seamlessly. Pair this with a skirt or to cinch a dress to complete your look. Plus, this design is bound to make a statement for seasons to come. Via Matches Fashion for $597.
While my personal style is a bit more bohemian-chic than super edgy, I find myself looking for a little edge from time to time. That’s why, when I came across this Alexander McQueen Skeleton Key Fob, I instantly wanted it. Sure, it’s a gold-tone skeleton key chain, but I find it kind of cute. And not only would it look great next to my keys, but it is also undoubtedly a conversation starter! Via Matches Fashion for $149.
It’s that time of week again – Want It Wednesday! With New York’s sweltering heat wave showing no signs of letting up, Bea, Shannon and I are still lusting after summer essentials that have somehow yet to make their way inside our apartments. This week, that means a Gucci bag, Ray-Ban sunglasses and Oribe hair products. (more…)
Perhaps it’s because last week was so short (or because last weekend was so long), but personally, I’m still trying to figure out what day it is. Yesterday felt like Wednesday to me, but in reality, that’s today. Thankfully, I took note of that in time for Want It Wednesday, the PurseBlog team’s weekly roundup of the things we’re coveting, lusting after and sending each other links to via GChat. This week’s selections, you might note, are especially summery – we still have our long weekend on the brain.
After spending most of last weekend in the sun, I can honestly say I feel like a whole new person. It’s amazing what a good tan can do for you, both emotionally and physically. Growing up in Florida, where tanning may as well have been an extracurricular activity, I was always in search of the best oils to get maximum glow. I’ve tried hundreds (literally), and this weekend I tried one that I became particularly fond of. A friend of mine brought along a bottle of Hampton Sun SPF4 Oil, which naturally I was inclined to try. The walnut oil and aloe in it made my skin silky smooth and left a subtle glow unlike other greasy oils. Not to mention, my tan looks great. This is definitely a new must-have in my summer beach bag. To make sure I maintain my new glow, I’m also wanting its partner, the Hampton Sun After-Sun Moisturizer, because the best tans are the ones you can drag out. Buy the oil for $35 and the moisturizer for $32, both via Net-a-Porter.
If you’re a regular PurseBlog reader, you probably recognize this MICHAEL Michael Kors Selma Messenger Bag from earlier in the week – Emily caught Alessandra Ambrosio carrying the exact same one. At the time, we couldn’t locate her neon yellow version for purchase online, but lo and behold, MichaelKors.com has it tucked away. I thought I was over neon, especially neon bags, but there’s just something about this simple little purse that makes me think maybe I need it to tide me over until fall gets here. For the price, it’s certainly an option I’m considering. Buy for $228 via Michael Kors.
I’ll be honest; I’m a sentimental kind of girl. Growing up, like many girls, I loved trying on my mom’s and grandma’s jewelry. While their tastes may have differed ever so slightly, there was one stone that had a presence in both of their collections – turquoise. Perhaps that is why, when I came across this Philippe Audibert Pawnee Turquoise Cuff, I stopped and stared. It doesn’t remind me of any of the specific pieces my mom or grandma own, but the turquoise definitely jumped out at me. This particular cuff is a bit more modern and substantial than the dainty pieces I remember trying on as a child, but I love it. Plus, I can say with certainty that this is a piece that will not only stand the test of time, but also become a piece I would gladly let my daughter or granddaughter try on (and maybe even keep) one day. Buy for $408 via farfetch.com.
