Does anybody know what J.L.W., the fathers initials, actually stands for. Obviously the last name is Whitman, but I can't find any info about the first two initials. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I think they are the best. Not for the shape insomuch as the print. I must agree with one person here, the print works much better on the hard rather than the soft cases emulating that old world style of cases that the first jet setters and seafaring folk had. Love it. But I have to ask why Marc Jacobs is credited so often with their design when the interesting part about them, for me anyway, the animal/palm tree print was actually designed by Wes Anderson's brother, Eric. Being a graphic man have to admire the oversized monograms and piece numbers.

Those shoes were cool!

supposed to be a luggage set that resembles the luggage that 19-th century millionaires would take with them on their expeditions.....It's supposed to give you an air that those boys are very very well off.

I love the luggage! I love the print, but in the movie it looks orange, is it really brown? They really didn't show any design on the belt, I am going to have to look that up next. Jus loved the movie - my kind of movie.

Didn't anyone understand the whole point of all the luggage was that the three brothers were mentally carrying alot of "mental luggage"; their problems; through out the entire movie? At one point they drop their luggage to rescue the kids and don't get their luggage back until they leave the village and the funeral for the boy is over. They were finally thinking of someone besides themselves. I loved the luggage. Its hard to let go of problems. They become who you are.

The whole point of the luggage is the animal prints - how could you 'personally do without' them? That defeats the whole sartorial / amusement point of the luggage!?! Otherwise, they're just expensive brown bags.

Personally, I love the luggage in the film. I'm tired (read: bored) of the traditional Louie stuff, and the name-logo prints are embarassing.

I like this luggage for the same reason I love my ferragamo ties - because they're interesting, different, and a bit of a playful 'wink' to the world. Now, if only I can find a company that actually makes luggage like this.
