The Many Bags of the Cannes Film Festival Attendees

Do you understand the Cannes Film Festival? I’m not sure that I do. On the surface, I can grok that it’s a place where films both American and international are debuted to a critical audience of industry folks, and the best ones are given awards. In actuality, it seems to be something of a festival celebrating being filthy rich and beautiful as much as its a festival celebrating film, and most of the attendees and their mega-yachts and supermodel dates would make the average one-percenter feel like a pauper. And an unattractive one, at that.

Where you find that many famous people and that much excess, you’ll also find a bevy of insanely good handbags. Below, we’ve collected the best from both on and off the red carpets of the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival, and the spoils of the event are about as good as you’d expect. The south of France becomes global paparazzi central for a week or so every year, and everyone brought their best bags out to play.

We’ll start with Sharon Stone, who is the prototypical Cannes celeb – older, blonde, eternally wealthy because of both her career and her relationships. This year, she carried a Valextra Babila Tote. Buy through Barneys for $2,540.

In the same vein as Sharon Stone, model Victoria Silvstedt was all over Cannes carrying an Hermes Birkin.

And then there’s Uma Thurman, debarking Roberto Cavalli’s yacht with and Hermes Kelly Bag.

Completing the Hermes trio, here’s Cate Capshaw carrying both an Hermes Shoulder Birkin and a Chanel Boy Bag.

Considering that she was at the airport heading home from Cannes, Olivia Palermo‘s double-team of a Chloe Alice Satchel and a Louis Vuitton SC Satchel makes more sense. Pick up the Chloe bag for $1,995 via Net-a-Porter and the LV for $4,850 via Louis Vuitton.

During Cannes, the Nice airport is just about the best place on the planet to spot celebs and their bags. Here’s former Spice Girl Melanie Brown carrying a Chanel Classic Flap Bag and wheeling a Louis Vuitton Eole Wheeled Duffel. Pick up your own for $2,210 via Louis Vuitton.

Models are also charged with being red-carpet eye candy in the evenings. Karlie Kloss wore lots of Vuitton, including this Louis Vuitton Tassel Minaudiere.

Cannes also includes a smattering of fashion people, because why not. Vogue Nippon editor Anna Dello Russo paired her black-and-white Balenciaga runway look with a Bulgari Minaudiere in the same colorway. Buy through Bulgari for $5,700.
