Celebrities    The Many Bags Of

The Many Bags of Kate Moss

Today’s the first official day of New York Fashion Week, and while Megs and I are out and about doing the whole NYFW thing, we though it only appropriate that we give you an opportunity to spend some time looking through the considerable handbag hoard of a real, capital-F fashion icon, not just some celeb. The only choice, of course, was Kate Moss. Before the “model off duty” look was a thing, Kate was dressing in skinny pants, animal prints and lots of great handbags.

As you might expect, Kate’s collection skews largely neutral, and within that, largely black. In that way, she’s a girl after my own heart, and likely after many of yours. She’s designed several lines of bags for Longchamp, of course, but her whole personal collection was a joy to sift through, all the way from one of the first Balenciaga Motorcycle Bags ever made to the latest from Saint Laurent. Check out the full show below and wish us luck at Fashion Week!

Kate’s collection is so vast and varied that I’m not sure where to begin, except to say that she has a serious and long-running love of bags that are black and simple, like this Yves Saint Laurent Easy Tote. Shop Saint Laurent via Net-a-Porter.

Moss has carried quite a bit of neutral YSL over the years – check out her taupe ostrich Yves Saint Laurent Downtown Tote. Shop Saint Laurent via Net-a-Porter.

Of course, Kate also has the original YSL It Bag, a cream-colored Yves Saint Laurent Muse Tote. Shop Saint Laurent via Neiman Marcus.

Just because Stefano Pilati has exited YSL doesn’t mean Kate’s ended her relationship with the brand. Here, she’s carrying the Saint Laurent Classic Duffel, Hedi Slimane’s first-ever women’s bag for the brand new Saint Laurent. Buy for $2,150 via Neiman Marcus.

Like many British celebs, Kate likes to represent the home team as often as possible. She has quite the collection of Mulberry Bayswater Bags, starting with this green croc version. Grab an embossed croc version in tan for $1,850 via Net-a-Porter.

Also notable? Kate’s nude ostrich Mulberry Bayswater. Shop Mulberry via Net-a-Porter.

Like much of Kate’s collection, the Mulberry Bayswater is also represented in basic black. $1,500 via Net-a-Porter.

Kate even uses her Bayswaters as travel bags, although at this size, it’s actually called a Mulberry Piccadilly Leather Holdall. Buy the black version for $2,100 via Mr. Porter.

More recently, Kate’s been repping Britain with the Mulberry Willow Tote, brand new for Spring 2013 and due to arrive in stores any day now. Shop Mulberry via Net-a-Porter.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the front section of the Willow tote detaches to become the Mulberry Willow Clutch. Here’s Kate carrying hers.

Celebrating Britain with an Italian bag is a bit odd, but hey, Kate can do what she wants. Like carry this Gucci Union Jack Boston Duffel, for instance. Shop Gucci via Gucci.com.

It seems as though no star is immune from the Hermes Birkin bug, not even Kate. First, white.

Kate also has a red Hermes Birkin, which is a big departure from her neutral ways.

Actually, that may have been an overstatement – when Kate goes beyond her neutral habits, which is relatively rare, she often reaches for red. This red Chanel Classic Flap clutch, for example.

Kate also carried this red Prada Ombre Leather Tote at one time. Shop Prada via Neiman Marcus.

While we’re at it with Prada, this Prada Dice Applique Pouch is pretty cool. Shop Prada via Neiman Marcus.

Kate carried this Prada Antik Bowler to the first day of school with her daughter.

This seems like as good a time as any to admit that we can’t remember who makes this particular black bag. It’s on the tip of my tongue and I can’t say it. Help us!

In my mind, the most random bag in Kate’s collection is this Paco Rabanne Iconic Metal Shoulder Bag.

That Kate carries a lot of stuff from her line for Longchamp is a little more predictable. The Kate Moss x Longchamp Gloucester Duffel in black is her favorite. Pick up the tan version via Neiman Marcus for $880.

Kate also has it in brown. (Who am I kidding – she has it in all the colors.) Buy it through Neiman Marcus for $880.

Kate occasionally carries the Kate Moss x Longchamp Glastonbury Shoulder Bag. Shop Longchamp via Nordstrom.

To round out her Longchamp collab, how about the Kate Moss x Longchamp Clutch Bag in sunny yellow. Shop Longchamp via Nordstrom.

Kate endorsed Longchamp before she had her own line of bags with the brand, though. here she is with the Longchamp Legende Satchel. Pick up a smaller version for $990 via Nordstrom.

This Longchamp Panther Parade Satchel is easily my favorite of her picks from the brand. Shop Longchamp via Nordstrom.

A supermodel who dates rock stars has to have at least one Balenciaga bag, of course. Kate’s Balencaga Flat Brass Shoulder Bag was among the first the brand ever made. Shop Balenciaga via Neiman Marcus.

Kate didn’t stop at just one Balenciaga, though. Check out this blue Balenciaga Weekender Bag. Pick up a similar Weekender for $1,845 via Neiman Marcus.

In fact, we caught Kate with several weekenders from various brands. This Gucci Monogram Duffel is another standout. Shop Gucci via Gucci.com.

Kate and Chloe make a certain amount of sense, especially Phoebe Philo-era Chloe. I love Kate’s Chloe Betty Python Satchel. Shop Chloe via Net-a-Porter.

In fact, you’ll probably notice that Kate carries a lot of bags from her friends. When you have friends like Marc Jacobs, why wouldn’t you? Here she is back in the day with a Marc Jacobs Blake Satchel. Shop Marc Jacobs via Net-a-Porter.

Marc also provided Kate with a Marc Jacobs Quilted Multipocket Hobo. Shop Marc Jacobs via Net-a-Porter.

Marc can also provide Louis Vuitton bags, of course. Kate’s a particular fan of the Louis Vuitton SC Sofia Coppola Satchel – her grey suede version goes with her almost everywhere, it seems. Pick up the suede version for $4,650 via Louis Vuitton.

If Kate gets bored with grey suede, she can always pull out the red leather Louis Vuitton SC Sofia Coppola Satchel. Get a slightly darker red for $4,650 via Louis Vuitton.

Among Kate’s designer friends is also Stella McCartney. They hang out together a lot, and Kate’s frequently seen with McCartney’s bags, like this Stella McCartney Falabella Clutch. Pick one up for $865 via Net-a-Porter.

Kate carried this Stella McCartney Holographic Clutch to one of Stella’s runway shows. Shop Stella McCartney via Net-a-Porter.

Sometimes, Kate’s friends also name bags after her, as is the case with the Genevieve Jones Kate Fringe Shoulder Bag.

Kate’s carried the Derek Lam Elsa Python Clutch so often and for so many seasons that Lam probably should name it after her. Shop Derek Lam via ShopBop.

Naturally, Kate has the requisite cool kid bags like the Givenchy Antigona Satchel. Kate invented the cool kid aesthetic. Buy through Bergdorf Goodman for $2,405.

This black suede Loewe Amazona Bag fits perfectly within Kate’s handbag choices. Pick up the same bag for $2,150 via Net-a-Porter.

Kate wears a lot of Balmain, and this Balmain x Aurelie Biderman Pierre Bag fits her preferred look of dark neutrals and simple shapes.

And then there’s the Chanel. Of course there’s the Chanel. Let’s start with the Chanel Coco Cabas, a cool kid bag of its era.

These days, Kate prefers smaller Chanel pieces. We already showed you her red Chanel clutch, but check out this Chanel Classic Small Flap Bag.

That the previous Classic Mini and this Chanel 2.55 Reissue Small Flap Bag are almost exactly the same doesn’t matter – why shouldn’t Kate (or any of us) have both?
