As we careen toward the end of summer, it’s once again time to gather ’round in our cut-off jean shorts and semi-sheer tanks and reexamine some of the best bag looks of the season. We had strong showings from brands like Givenchy, Fendi and Saint Laurent, which should come as a surprise to no one.

This week we have your usual slew of models, heiresses, actresses and people who model but are arguably more famous for friending other famous people. (Here’s looking at you, Gigi Hadid.) It’s late summer, when celebrities tend to scatter to the far reaches of the Earth in search of a beach where the paparazzi won’t bother them.
Almost, but not quite. It was a busy weekend for celebs, what with Wimbledon, extremely high-profile weddings and a mass celeb exodus from Paris Couture Week. All that celeb news, combined with numerous celeb cheating/divorce rumors that we’re too classy to mention here will indubitably make for some premium tabloid reading tomorrow.
It’s almost as if the powers that be at Louis Vuitton sent out a secret, celebrities-only missive instructing all their celeb field operatives to bust out their newest, nicest Louis Vuitton bags if they wanted to remain in the brand’s favor.
Céline still holds a firm grip on the hearts of celebrities, and they have the bags to prove it. Céline is still much beloved by hordes of less famous bag lovers, of course, but we can’t all bankroll the Luggage Tote collection of our dreams.
I’m only exaggerating a little. There are technically no children in this celeb roundup (wherefore art thou, Kiernan Shipka?), but Hermès is the undisputed favorite this week. Everyone who wasn’t at the Met Ball was apparently on their way home from Morocco following David Beckham’s lavish, three-day 40th birthday celebration last week.
Saint Laurent’s Sac de Jour has quietly-yet-deliberately infiltrated the hearts and minds of celebrities over the past year. It’s not that the bag itself is remarkable; it’s really not, which may be part of the appeal. It’s sort of an anti-“it” bag–classically styled and fairly inconspicuous, with minimal branding.
While the brand’s popularity has undoubtedly ebbed since an event that I will refer to as Peak Phantom Luggage Tote, models still have lots of love for their treasured Céline bags. Models across the US were seen carrying Céline bags in droves this week; when they weren’t carrying Saint Laurent, of course.
Here’s Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, shopping, strolling, and trying not to trip over semi-feral cats in LA, all while carrying a white Victoria Beckham Quincy Tote. Rosie has almost exclusively carried Saint Laurent and Givenchy bags this year, so a Victoria Beckham tote is a bit of a departure for her, brand-wise.
