This summer we saw unassuming new handbag styles from Tod’s and MCM turn into bonafide hits. A certain Versace style also finally took off, and the ongoing Gucci renaissance ensured that we saw almost as many Guccis on A-lister arms as we saw Givenchys.
Celebs try to get away with some strange trends in the summer. Thigh-high suede boots, for example, are extremely popular with a certain set. This week overalls are making a mild comeback, though honestly I feel like some celeb or another gets the nifty idea to wear overalls in public every six months or so.
In my last shoe-centric post about Chrissy Teigen, I pointed out several tricks supermodels use to look perma-fashionable. This exploration of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley‘s designer shoe collection will give you even more ideas, such as “always wear suede.” It is now appropriate for all seasons, and it makes you look like you are one suede sandal-bootied-step ahead of everyone else.
I’m a bit biased, but I think all of the celebs featured herein are influential, albeit some of them only in fashion. In a larger sense, only one has made a lasting cultural impact that propelled her onto this year’s Time 100 list, and only one has the clout to bring one of her favorite designers along to the gala as her escort.
Celebs at home and abroad dragged out their favorite Gucci bags last week, whether they were hot off the runway or several seasons old. Gucci is enjoying massive success with its latest lines of shoes and handbags, and we have to wonder which storied fashion house will have this sort of mini-renaissance next.
As ever, celebrities are jumping the gun just a little with their barely seasonal handbag choices, but we can forgive them, because a good many of them live in LA. Los Angeles may as well exist in a biodome–that is how far removed it is from the seasons we see on the East Coast.
It’s late February, so of course that means it’s time for Los Angeles celebrities to bust out the barely-there denim. It’s basically a seasonal rite of passage. I jest, of course–this seems a tad early for short shorts, even by LA standards, but that’s certainly this week’s most notable trend, right behind giant black designer totes.
Our photo service runneth over with fantastic handbag (and designer shoe) pics from this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards. (By the way, you guys are checking out our weekly celebrity designer shoe round-ups, yes? They are also penned by yours truly.) The CCAs are a slightly more low-key affair than your Golden Globes or Oscars, and historically, they’ve been bigger on industry cred than Hollywood glamour.
As the year comes to and end, we thought it only appropriate to take a look back on celebrities, their handbags and the happy moments they made together. For 2015, we went beyond the usual Chanel Flaps and Hermès Birkins to celebrate some more interesting and seasonal choices; after all, variety is the spice of life.
