This week, celebs have surprised us with a few rather obscure handbag choices from lesser-known brands that are at the peripheries of our radar, as well as bags from the major brands that generally have a lower profile.

When I first set out to see which bag supermodel Miranda Kerr has been carrying lately, I expected to find plenty of photos with her and her beloved Hermès Birkin; it’s been an omnipresent piece in her impressive collection for years.

It’s July, and celebs are sporting some premium peak summer looks. It’s just teased hair, short shorts, mini-dresses and mesh for days. Summer celebs are probably my favorite celebs. Their bag selections are both brightly colored or neutral.

Our metaphorical cup runneth over with celebrity handbags. We’re still sorting through pics from the hours preceding the Met Ball, and people’s pre-Ball handbags were sometimes more interesting than what they wore later that evening. And yes, you’re right, the Met Ball was last week, but there was so much to look at that we thought a tour through the pre-party looks we missed might be in order, plus some top-notch celebrity looks from the past few days.

Why does a satchel or top handle handbag have so much more gravitas than other handbags? Why does it go so well with business attire? Is it the serious, boxy shape? The lack of straps? Does carrying a bag in hand somehow signify that you are more hands-on?

Top-handles and totes reigned supreme in the celebosphere last week. Stars of all stripes also relied on their trusty, oversized designer duffels and hobos to transport their luxe goods to exotic destinations unknown. And yes, Harry Styles is in here, somewhere.

Celebrity Handbags Paris Fashion Week Spring 2015

Paris Fashion Week is the grandaddy of them all, and the street style certainly reflected that. Like Milan Fashion Week before it, brands invited fewer celebrities, so editors, bloggers and street style stars got more of a chance to shine.

Miranda Kerr A.L.C. Lucas Leopard Satchel

Here’s Miranda Kerr, caught in a rare, (comparatively) casual moment outside of JFK. She’s carrying a calfhair A.L.C. Lucas Leopard Satchel and wearing a black leather pair of Birkenstock Arizona Sandals. You can find Miranda’s bag at Barneys for $1,095, and you can also pick up a pair of Birks just like hers for $120 at Net-A-Porter.

Miranda Kerr Hermes Birkin

Here’s supermodel Miranda Kerr, doing Miranda Kerr things on an especially steamy, 93-degree day in New York City and making an intentionally exposed black bralet look ridiculously chic, somehow. (Strangely enough, the woman standing behind her is trying the exact same thing.
