Fashion Week

Fashion critics sometimes crow about how we now live in a post-trend world, but I’m not sure that’s entirely correct when it comes to handbags. While it’s true that the market now provides more variety than ever, it’s still possible to find clear commonalities in a seasonal round of accessories, and that was absolutely true of the bags that came down the runway at New York Fashion Week Spring 2017 last week.

Fashion people are a dramatic bunch and the industry is full of personalities. Designers leave and arrive at brands, the flock of editors and industry insiders flits from one trend to the next, companies’ literal and figurative stocks rise and fall.

As much as we love seasonal colors and prints, it’s hard to deny the everlasting allure of the black handbag. Unless you’re a lady of leisure (lucky!) or the kind of person who’s meticulous about changing her handbag to match her outfit every morning, you probably have a workhorse bag in your collection, and that bag is, in all likelihood, black.

Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week (or, more accurately, New York Fashion Eight Days and Some Presentations Before and After) is, to be blunt, never the best place to spot excellent luxury handbags on the runway. (That honor goes to either Paris or Milan, depending on the season.) It always boasts a few winners if you’re willing to search, though, and, as it turns out, searching is my job.

We have a really impressive line-up of handbag selections this week from a much broader variety of labels (and celebrities) than usual. I’m always excited when these roundups aren’t totally dominated by the same three brands as always: Givenchy, Hermès and Chanel.

[Editor’s Note: This week, the PurseBlog staff is out of the office to enjoy the last little bit of the holidays. We’ll return on Monday, but in the meantime, we’ll be running both new posts and a few of our favorites from the past few months to get you ready for fall.

The Many Bags of Jaime King
Celebrities

We recently spotted Jaime King carrying a Dior bag that we think is about to become quite popular, and that sparked our curiosity: what else does the model-turned-actress have in her handbag stash? As it turns out, the answer to that question is quite varied.

Celebrities

Here’s supermodel Karlie Kloss, running errands in NYC and doing a quick pop-in at Taylor Swift’s Tribeca apartment, all while carrying a black Jason Wu Jourdan Tote. Karlie is among Wu’s favorite models, so it’s no surprise to see her toting one of the designer’s most popular bags.

Most people think that when we go to Fashion Week, we’re mainly looking at the clothes going down the runway. In reality, Fashion Week has become just as much about what people outside of the shows wear and carry as what’s going on inside, and I love seeing all the bags on display.

On this, the last day of February (where’d this month go?), we have our last February edition of our weekly bag deals roundup. We’re in between sale periods, so we searched extra hard to come up with the best handbag discounts, and we think you’ll be pleased with the fruits of our labors.

Best Bags of New York Fashion Week Fall 2014
Fashion Week

Another New York Fashion Week has come and gone, and as we prepare for the Fall 2014 collections cross the Atlantic to roll through Europe for the next three weeks, it’s important to take stock of what happened in Manhattan and what it tells us about where our accessories dollars are headed in the second half of the year.
