As much as we love seasonal colors and prints, it’s hard to deny the everlasting allure of the black handbag. Unless you’re a lady of leisure (lucky!) or the kind of person who’s meticulous about changing her handbag to match her outfit every morning, you probably have a workhorse bag in your collection, and that bag is, in all likelihood, black.
New York Fashion Week (or, more accurately, New York Fashion Eight Days and Some Presentations Before and After) is, to be blunt, never the best place to spot excellent luxury handbags on the runway. (That honor goes to either Paris or Milan, depending on the season.) It always boasts a few winners if you’re willing to search, though, and, as it turns out, searching is my job.
[Editor’s Note: This week, the PurseBlog staff is out of the office to enjoy the last little bit of the holidays. We’ll return on Monday, but in the meantime, we’ll be running both new posts and a few of our favorites from the past few months to get you ready for fall.
Most people think that when we go to Fashion Week, we’re mainly looking at the clothes going down the runway. In reality, Fashion Week has become just as much about what people outside of the shows wear and carry as what’s going on inside, and I love seeing all the bags on display.
On this, the last day of February (where’d this month go?), we have our last February edition of our weekly bag deals roundup. We’re in between sale periods, so we searched extra hard to come up with the best handbag discounts, and we think you’ll be pleased with the fruits of our labors.
Another New York Fashion Week has come and gone, and as we prepare for the Fall 2014 collections cross the Atlantic to roll through Europe for the next three weeks, it’s important to take stock of what happened in Manhattan and what it tells us about where our accessories dollars are headed in the second half of the year.
Diane Kruger was recently spotted doing a little shopping in West Hollywood with the Jason Wu Daphne 2 Snakeskin Satchel. From a distance, that snakeskin pattern looks like a fine tweed, but it is in fact a most unusual spotted, black and white “watersnake” skin, which is a much less expensive alternative to python, and the pricepoint of this bag would certainly indicate as much.
As January draws to a close, so does the traditional luxury sale season, but that won’t stop us from scouring the Internet each Friday for our weekly dose of bag deals. This week, we searched the best sales that are still ongoing and found some treasures, from calf hair, to exotics, to the perfect Marchesa spring wedding clutch for 60% off.
