There’s no metallic like a dark metallic. Light silver and gold can look cheap and plasticky even on the best leather, but when shades of dark bronze and gunmetal are involved, the end result is almost always incredibly chic. Embossed snakeskin tends to look tacky when combined with metallics in particular, but the Whiting & Davis Snake-Embossed Leather and Metal Mesh Clutch pulls off the look with considerable style.

The key to this clutch’s success is that the metallic faux python isn’t use overzealously. Instead, it accents Whitiny & Davis’s traditional metal mesh, which makes up the body of the bag in a beautiful, extremely versatile shade of pewter. Not only does the combination of materials mark the bag as an evolution of the brand’s aesthetic, but it makes it a great night-out choice for any number of stylish bar-goers. I shy away from expensive clutches when I’m going to a place where lots of liquid will be consumed and/or spilled, but with a mostly metal evening bag, that fear would entirely disappear. Oh, this is fabulous! I’m so glad to see how successful this old brand is in updating their signature metal-mesh designs. I have a couple of their early vintage pieces from the 20s – 30s and they still look in-tune with today’s trends. But their new pieces are even more beautiful! I totally agree with Amanda that the combination of the dark metallic and embossed python leather is very appealing. The bias cut and the end tussle adds interest to this simple pouch – in the best traditions of the exquisite Art Deco designs of the 1920s. It seems like the bag is easy to use and care of, too, which is personally important to me. The price is reasonable. So, this one is a must-have, indeed!

Sorry for the typo: “tussle” should read “tassel”.
