Is this bag cute? I’ve found myself unable to decide. Unfortunately, the more that I look at the Via Repubblica Swag Studded Tote [sic], the less I like it. I started out enthusiastic, and I have steadily become less so, and now I’m not sure that I like it at all.

I’m not sure if it’s the material, the color, or the very limited design elements. Or maybe it’s all of them. But I feel like you guys might be able to help me figure it out.

Via Republica Swag Studded Tote

I think that my principle concern is probably the material used. I’m not a great fan of suede; to me, it makes most bags look old-fashioned and kind of shabby. This bag comes in a leather version, but the leather looks stiff and shiny, which is also not my favorite. This was the color I liked best of all the available options, both leather and suede, so that’s why I went with this one. If this bag came in a soft, matte grey leather, I might be all about it. As it stands, it’s not my favorite.

Another problem that I’m having trouble getting past is the dearth of studs. If the word appears in the name of the bag, I want lots of them, but all we get here is a few on the weird strappy zipper pulls. Come to think of it, let’s talk about those – I’d get them caught around everything. Door knobs, racks at stores, the corners of furniture. It would take me approximately two weeks to snap them, I believe. I’m clumsy enough as it is, I don’t need extra stuff like that to help me knock things (or myself) over. If you like very simple designs in suede, though, at least the price is fair. Buy through Nordstrom for $348.

I have looked at the bordeaux leather version of this bag almost daily for the last few weeks, and actually ordered it (seemingly on impulse), then cancelled it 12-hours later (even worse impulse), and now today I went to order it and there are no more leather available in bordeaux. Sniff!

I am not a fan of the suede style, but I found the bordeaux leather to be a bag that was hard to forget. I kept looking at the different views and just loved the bag.

It has a different look but not too trendy, and I actually like the understated stud effect, because I think the style will carry for years to come.

You do make a good point about the zipper strap posing a catch hazard. But THAT is something I am willing to live with, so hopefully someone will find that to be a dealbreaker and return their bordeaux leather and I can “fix” my mistake here. =)

I have searched extensively for info on the designer (to no avail). Are you aware of any other resources for this bag?
