As much as I love and adore the quirky retro-modern aesthetic that designer Consuelo Castiglioni has created at Marni, I don’t always love the prices the brand charges for simple, non-leather totes in graphic prints. I always have a hard time reconciling designer price tags on those types of bags, though – there’s no such think as luxury cotton canvas, no matter how much anyone will try and convince me otherwise. I simply don’t believe it exists, and I’m not willing to pay the premium if the materials aren’t extraordinary. That’s where the Milly Coated Canvas Tote Bag comes in.
This particular print toes the line between classic Marni weirdness and Milly’s sporty femininity, and I totally love it. Not only that, but the details are great, too – the cord-wrapped handles and contrasting pink handle attachments are exactly the kind of thing you’d expect to find on a premiere designer bag in order to try and set it apart from its mid-market counterparts. In this case, though, you get the look for a comparatively reasonable $245, complete with a bonus patent-finish black pouch inside. If you need a new beach bag that you won’t be embarrassed to carry away from the sand and surf as well, then here you go. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $245.
