Loeffler Randall Rider Bag

It’s already pretty rare when a handbag excites me immediately, and it’s even more rare when that bag comes in at less than $500. When it comes to accessories, modern design and attention to detail often require a premium price tag, and most of us are simply resigned to that fact. With that in mind, I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when I first came across the Loeffler Randall Rider Bag.

With only a couple of seasons under its belt, Loeffler Randall’s bag line is still brand new, but the designers have taken the same aesthetic savvy that makes their shoe line so successful and actually managed to translate it to handbags. That’s a transition that’s difficult for even huge shoe brands with vast resources (just as the folks at Louboutin), and the Rider Bag is all the proof I need to see to know that the Loeffler Randall team knows exactly what its doing.

As trends have tended toward smaller and more structured bags, contemporary brands have had a bit of a difficult time making the shift. The materials necessary to make those bags (and make them look good) cost more, and the manufacturing process is more difficult because the details have to be perfect. When a bag is slouchy, it can disguise a multitude of corner-cutting tricks; when the edges are clean and the leather smooth, that’s not so much the case.

This bag looks wildly more expensive than the $495 that it’ll set you back, mostly because of the materials and confident, modern design. Not only that, but it feels current; it’s not at all flashy or over-the-top, and it’s the type of bag that you’d expect to see someone with great personal style carrying. For the price, that’s hard to beat, and it’s not a fluke – almost all of LR’s bags are this great or close to it. Buy through ShopBop for $495.

I’ve been eyeing this bag on the LR site for a while, but can’t get myself to buy it without seeing it in person. Love that mint green color!
