In the grand scheme of things, growing up in Georgia made me pretty lucky when it came time for summer vacation. We were an eight hour drive away from both Disney World and the beaches of Destin, Florida, which meant that we spent plenty of time getting sunburned and sandy. I recently went back home to visit my parents, and during a shopping excursion with my mom, I ran across the Kate Spade Beach Club Beth Totes. If a bag could more effectively transport me straight back to childhood than this one does, I’ve certainly never seen it.
If you were in elementary school in the late 80s or early 90s, you probably remember bags like these quite well. They looked like they were woven together out of bendy straws, and the plastic construction and open weave helped the big totes dry out after a day at the beach. For $198 apiece, these candy-color Kate Spade versions are hopefully made out of slightly sterner stuff, but my guess is that there will be a not-insignificant number of young women out there who can’t resist a trip down memory lane in handbag form. Nostalgia, after all, is a pretty powerful emotional reaction. Buy through Nordstrom for $198 in four colors.
