Ladies, let’s talk about the color orange. Not only is it October, which is the orange-est month of the year by far, but the sunshine-y shade has been a trend for god knows how long now. There’s good reason for that; not only is orange seasonless, but it’s incredibly versatile, especially for a bright. Go ahead, try and think of a color that wouldn’t mix well with orange, at least in small doses. It’s pretty hard to think of one, right? When you incorporate orange into your look as an accent color, it becomes downright impossible. (One of you will think of a color that doesn’t work and mention it in the comments, I’m sure. For now, go with it, ok?)
That’s where the J.Crew Copley Saddle Bag comes in. The bag is perfectly on trend – it’s about the same proportion as a Proenza Schouler PS11, but without the hardware setup and structural details that would make it an “inspired” bag – but simultaneously simple enough to be classic. And that color! And, most importantly, that price!
Despite (or maybe because of) my day job, I’m a firm believer that a savvy fashion consumer doesn’t necessarily have to spend huge bucks to look hugely stylish. Yes, a big budget makes things a lot more straightforward, but money does that with a lot of aspects of life. Somehow, the rest of us muddle through anyway, and the fashion world is no exception. For an all-leather bag in an excellent color that has a ton of structural details and is big enough to be worn everyday, $258 is a true bargain. Plus, J.Crew is smart enough to make all of their bags fairly nondescript, which means that everyone will be left guessing who made your bag and how much it cost. My guess? They’ll all be too high. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $258.
