I’ve bought a lot of handbags in my life, both new and used, but I’ve never bought any new Louis Vuitton. Why? Because I like the way that the vachetta leather accents look after they’ve aged a bit and turned a beautiful honey brown color. I think that that color has so much character after it’s been used and worn, and the aging process means that every bag is unique to its owner. As a result, the previously owned bags seem to have so much more character for me, and the new ones don’t really hold my interest.
And I’m glad to see someone else embracing the idea that an aged bag is a beautiful bag. The J.Crew Campo Bag is made of naturally colored oiled leather that is intended to change color and depth as the bag is used. No two bags will look alike because all of the owners will carry them differently, and after a while, this honey brown will deepen into an even more beautiful color. According to J.Crew, the material also has another advantage – small scratches can be easily buffed out with a soft cloth, ensuring that the bag will age gracefully. Buy through J. Crew for $298.
