I often wish that more of my favorite contemporary labels would launch handbag lines, particularly those like Milly that have a very strong stylistic point of view. Luckily, Milly has done just that for Spring 2011 with a collection of reasonably priced bags that reflect its refined-but-beachy look for spring.

Among my favorites so far is the Milly Perforated Patent Satchel, which fit’s the brand’s image to a tee. Milly tends to skew less urban than other contemporary labels, and this structured but still fun bag strikes the right note for the brand. When launching a new handbag line, getting the tone right is often the most difficult part, and I think that the company has done well getting the bags in line with its aesthetic.

Whether or not you like the bags, of course, will have much to do with whether or not you like Milly. The brand doesn’t usually cater to my personal style, but I could see some of my more conventional friends looking adorably casual wearing its clothes and carrying its bags, and if I don’t have a problem imagining it, I’m sure that plenty of other people will be able to see themselves in that scenario as well. The coral color of this bag is fun and on-trend, and although I’m not personally a fan of perforated leather, this seems like a season-appropriate use of it. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $395.

this reminds me of a kate spade bag.

I like the color of the bag as it appears here (it seems more bright orange than coral in the pic) and the shape is good, but I don’t like perforated leather.

I love Milly’s clothing aesthetic but the bag just doesn’t cut it. There’s something about it that says “school project” – likely the mixed patent, perforated mesh, and leather. And it reminds me of another unattractive bag – the Coach Francine. Next.

How large is it? Not bad for young girls. It reminds me of the Minkoff and Botkier bags, for some reason.

Okay, I think I am too old for this one, but it seems fine for a twenty something.

    I love it!!!

I’m a teenager here, and even I don’t like this. I can just see people carrying this with a pair of yoga pants, a dowdy outfit, or even worse, a completely blinged-out outfit. Eek, keep bags like this away from me!

It looks like something that should be in Forever 21. In other words, cheap! I don’t like it at all. And, $395 on a ho-hum handbag is ridiculous. It looks more like it should be $19.95.
On a good note, I love the color.

I love the look. I just wish they gave some indication of what the size is. The proportions makes me think it’s a mini bag, which is of no use to me.
