Antik Batik puts a unique spin on chain detailing

Like fringe and studs, chain detailing is another trend that’s losing steam fast. It’s more likely to stay around than the other two because of the functional natural of chain straps, but chain as a design element can get a little boring. Until now, that is.

The Antik Batik Anka 1 Shoulder Bag puts fine-gage chain to creative use with an incredibly intricate chain-covered flap that goes a long way toward jazzing up what might be a boring suede hobo otherwise. If more designers were this creative with how they implemented trends (even slightly stale ones), my job would be a whole lot easier.

Antik Batik bags are often a little too hippy-dippy for my decidedly punk-influenced taste, but I can’t help but like this one. Chain fringe like what we see hanging off of this hobo is a little weird, but i think it’s necessary in this case in order to balance the design. The chain effect almost looks like a metallic spiderweb, and I mean that in the best way possible. This bag is a mile away from any chain embellishment that I’ve seen recently, and for the price, that sort of singularity is quite a deal. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $470.
