Valentino Petale Satchel

Jun 2, 2009 / Posted in Satchels, Valentino Handbags by Amanda Mull.

Valentino Petale SatchelIt pains me to write this since I normally adore Valentino bags, particularly those that play on their ever-popular rose theme. But, as far as the Valentino Petale Satchel goes, I just can’t get on board.

A lot of their bags are ruffly and fluffy and plush in a way that few other designers are able to execute with any level of skill at all, but this one is just sort of flat. And I mean that both literally and figuratively. In the physical sense, it looks like this bag was shipped in a box stuffed with a few too many of its brothers and sisters. Instead of big and fabulous, the flowered front looks squashed and flat. And it’s not just the picture – the bag looks like that in person too, or maybe like someone cut off the big petals at the base, and this is all that’s left. As a result, the bag doesn’t have the personality that most of the similarly themed Valentino bags have, and I’ll have to take a pass on this one. Buy through Saks for $2495.

It’s fairly large, too. If it poofed out it might look even worse. Green? It looks like a squished head of lettuce. They may have pulled it off in bisque or petal pink.

I think it needs to be in a lighter color of material.
The different colors of dark green overpower the design.

Maybe if worn with a big winter wool winter jacket then the bag wouldn’t standout too much from the outfit.

What do I think of this bag? Not a lot really, but squished lettuce is good!

I concur with Amanda’s sentiments totally! The bag maybe oversized but it is too skwooshed looking and doesn’t have the look of distinction and classicality!

My Mum has a nice Valentino bag from the ’90s. Its an aquamarine patent blue structured square shoulder bag and it looks great Summer or winter. What is going on with Valentino lately? There’s feminine and then there’s camp flounce.

I actually think the color makes the bag a bit more somber, but the flat flower makes it still girly, but not over the top… I can’t trash it like everyone else – I actually see it’s potential coupled with my wardrobe.

I love the bag, just not the color or the price. Way out of my league, but still a pretty shape.

Aww! When I first saw this bag, I saw it in white and I have been lusting after it ever since!! I agree with “Free” because I see potential with it and my wardrobe, especially when I dress a little less flashy for work or a simple spring dress that needs something crazy to pair it with. I guess I’m just a sucker for Valentino -

I agree that this greenish color is ugly and does not flatter the bag at all…
