Oryany Misia Large Flap Satchel, $398 via Neiman Marcus.

When you spend eight hours per day looking at handbags, there are certain price points that you get used to seeing ($595, $895, $1195, $1595 and so on) and it’s usually not hard to guess a price once you’ve seen a bag and know who designed it. I’m usually pretty accurate, and if I’m off, it’s never by much. Until I saw the Oryany Misia Large Flap Satchel, that is.

A large bag with this much detail almost always retails for at least $595, even from a smaller contemporary label. In fact, $595 seems to be the price point of choice for almost every contemporary brand that I can think of, with $395 reserved for small crossbodies or larger clutches. It’s hard to find a big (or even medium-sized) bag at any high-end retailer for $400 full price, but that’s exactly what this is.

And although I haven’t seen this bag in person, I have seen other Oryany bags and I’m willing to bet that this satchel does indeed give you a lot for your money. Slick beige patent or matte black leather provide the backdrop for lots of industrial hardware details in a modern combination of gold and silver, and although this design undoubtedly owes a debt to the Proenza Schouler PS1, the two bags are different enough (and this design is inexpensive enough) to easily gain my seal of approval. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $398.

Very nice! I still think I am going to save my pennies until I can have a PS1 tho.

Edgy in an old, mean-looking lunchbox kind of way. Based on the article, there’s bang for buck here. Not sure what the dimensions are, it almost looks like a briefcase. The fact that NM carries it piques my interest.

I’m with Lulugurl – saving my pennies for a PS1.

the structure of it is good,

the studded hardware is bad, bad, bad..what is sad is that they could have saved themselves the money and left it off; ditto with the corner pieces.

i can’t tell from photos but it would be interesting to see how the leather is like IRL.

not really sure about the front clasp either but its a hellvalot better then the huge round piece of metal sewn throughout the bag, esp the two on the straps.

do you know the dimensions of the bag?

Looks like a great bag for the price.

Question – does “contemporary brand” mean small / less successful brand?

  • LAltiero85

Wow!! The leather looks like it would be amazing for the price!!! I’m loving the Gwen Shoulder Bag in black…looks so smooshy!

  • Staci

Great price but not a fan of the studs. Since the leather looks so rich and soft and the price is fantastic, I’d deal with the studs!

  • MizzJ

These look to be very stylish and easy to incorporate pieces and really for that price how can you go wrong? I actually like how much hardware it has.. but it is on the edge of over-doing it. I think this would be a great bag for a student.

I think that this is a good bag. It can definitely go from day to night. Say, work then dinner with the husband. I really like the beige patent.
I agree with you about price points. Recently went to the Coach boutique and looked at a bag that was $698.

I really like the beige satchel and great price.
I sort of miss that the less expensive bags aren’t listed under Savvy anymore…it was really handy for those with a less than extravagant budget to browse them all together.

      Ok?! I completely agree.

  • chloehandbags

Hate to say it, because I like the price point; but, personally (and objectively), I think it looks a little on the cheap side, TBH?

Something’s only a bargain, if you’re getting more than you’re paying for it.

In this case, unfortunately, I suspect you’re still getting less?
