Ashley Olsen Travels With Goyard

by Anna Cooperberg

I’ve always been a fan of Mary Kate and Ashley. As a child, when I wasn’t reading you could find me plopped in front of The Adventures of Mary Kate & Ashley or You’re Invited to Mary Kate & Ashley’s… (my favorite was the Mall Party). Now, I respect them more for their uniquely personal style and impact on the fashion world. Combine that with the fact that my favorite handbag and luggage design house is Goyard, and I literally jumped for joy. Well, not really, but I was exceedingly pleased.

Here, Ashley Olsen is carrying the Goyard Boeing Travel Satchel. I’m sure many of you readers have been curious about the world of Goyard, as the brand doesn’t advertise and is sold in few places around the globe. To those people and those to whom I’m introducing this brand: Goyard is very special. I’m conjecturing that Ashley, with her strong involvement in fashion, knows why these bags are such a hidden secret.

Ashley Olsen
Goyard started as a trunk and traveling case maker in 1853- and since then, they’ve retained many of the same manufacturing techniques. For example, the tiny tricolor dot pattern that makes up the iconic chevron design is painted entirely by hand. Sometimes small stencils are used, but it is by hand nevertheless. This is only a minuscule detail of the exceptional house- to learn more, make sure to visit the brand-new Goyard Forum on The Purse Forum.

For the fashion-forward duo, who were honored with membership to the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2009, carrying Goyard symbolizes a step to the past and a commitment to excellent quality in accessories. Ok, well maybe Ashley wasn’t thinking about that when she purchased her Boeing, but I’d like to think that she was.

“Four allowances. Do you still need it? I love it. Decisions, decisions.” Ah, mall party. I think that Ashley has a mature fashion taste and probably considered at least some of that when selecting her bag.

Goyard fans should be angry about this I suspect, because we all know that any bag the Olsens carry immediately will secure “it” bag status and thus EVERYONE will want one and some will revert to fakes. I would also like to point out that many fashion blogs etc. seem to be chiding the presence of monogrammed bags in the next decade and declaring them well, dead as of 00′-02′. However, LV and Goyard are timeless pieces even though they are and will be faked to death forever because of their unforgiving, flashy moniker on every square inch of bag.

I actually find my Goyards to be the most durable of any bags I have carried, and I wear them every day. I suppose some models are obviously less durable, but I have never heard of any complaints from Goyard carriers.

Honestly, I am not a fan of Goyard.I´ve been seeing their bags everywhere now, people carrying them like some “precious secret”, well, include me not, they are out of my collection.I like special editions and fall in love with certain shapes like the baguette from Fendi, the Birkin, or the speedy , noé and neverfull from Vuitton. The last bag I bought was the Chanel 2.55 in pink degradée.I never like the “last it bag” , it takes a while for the courtship and the decision to say “I do”…

I have never heard of this brand before (no, I am not living in a village, but I am from Europe and Goyard does not seem to be big there). So, I have actually learned something.

I’m glad you learned! Goyard seems to be more popular in some places in Europe than others- for example, I saw no one carrying it in Milan recently. It does fly under the radar, though.

OMG, the other bag is a Hermes Kelly, of course.I have 2 Goyard bags, and find them very durable. Both bought at Barneys. I don’t like the Goyard tote, that everyone carries very much. But people find it practical. One of mine is the Saigon and the other one is similar in shape to the LV Alma. I can’t think of the name. Goyard has a wonderful history.

Goyard does have a very interesting history :) The Saigon is beautiful. The Goyards I know that are shaped like the LV Alma are the Jeanne and the Sac Vendome… perhaps it’s one of those?

This bag is the headliner for pure “snob appeal.” That’s what I think when I see some snotty random carrying one.

I think Goyard bags are fugly. The chevron pattern looks like an airplane seat cover from the 1970s.
