Help Survivors of Domestic and Financial Abuse Near You in the Purple Purse Challenge

Domestic and financial abuse is an insidious and personal problem, and The Allstate Foundation’s long history of advocacy on the issue has informed its dual approach to raising awareness and assisting survivors. Purple Purse ambassador Kerry Washington and The PURSEonal Voices Network are working to spread the word on a national level, but so much of the day-to-day work of empowering survivors is done by local organizations across the country.

We’re proud to be a part of the 2015 PURSEonal Voices Network, and today we’re excited to tell you about a great way to aid survivors in your community. The Purple Purse Challenge is going on now, and through October 27, you can donate to one of more than 160 local nonprofits across the US that provide emergency assistance and crucial support to domestic abuse survivors looking to escape dangerous situations and restart their lives.

Here’s how the challenge works: local organizations keep all the money they raise, and organizations that raise the most can win an additional donation of up to $100,000 from The Allstate Foundation. That money then goes back to work in the organizations’ communities, and donating is a great way to positively affect the lives of women near you. Also, for every $10 you donate, you’ll also be entered to win the one of the 2015 Purple Purses, designed by Dee Ocleppo and Kerry Washington.

You can head to The Allstate Foundation Purple Purse Challenge website to donate to an organization in your area or pledge your donation to be spread evenly among the participating organizations.

You can also still purchase your limited edition 2015 Purple Purse via Saks for $350, as well as a bag charm to show your support for abuse survivors on your handbag every day.
