I always want what I can’t have. I think that’s human nature, if there is such a thing–inaccessibility gives anything a veneer of increased value. That’s also a primary psychological tenet of running a successful fashion brand–ultimately, companies of any type are hoping that their wares will be popular enough that eventually demand will exceed supply and their desirability will compound. Few ever get to that point, but naturally, the bag I want the most in the world did: the Gucci Marmont Velvet Shoulder Bag.
This bag had multiple things in its favor to make it a sell-out hit: Gucci is the hottest big fashion brand in the world right now, velvet is among the season’s most popular fashion trends and this version was slightly less expensive than its leather counterparts. Its time on this earth was extremely quick; I haven’t seen a version in stock anywhere in weeks.
That’s not the only reason I won’t find it under the tree (my present this year was a much-needed new laptop that came early), but in an ideal world, it’s the bag I’d want to unwrap this Sunday.
