Prada Perforated Roll Bag

Nov 5, 2009 / Posted in Prada Handbags by Amanda Mull.

I think that the handbag folks at Prada and I need to have a little conversation about the Prada Perforated Roll Bag. I have some thoughts, and they would probably best be expressed in private. And by “in private,” I mean “after the jump.”

Prada Perforated Roll Bag

Where do I even start?

Miuccia & Co., we have a problem here. Prada turns out some fine handbags, no doubt about it, but I think it might be time for the collection to refocus on designing a few truly great bags instead of making a huge collection of bags wherein a lot of them are just…mind-boggling. In a bad way.

There’s no reason that a bag that looks like it was made to coordinate with a University of North Carolina basketball jersey should be produced by a top fashion house and marketed to grown women for over a thousand dollars. The whole premise is mildly insulting. Come to think of it, this thing also bares a striking resemblance to a pencil bag that I had in elementary school, with the addition of some oddly long handles.

It disappoints me that the same people that were responsible for the utterly genius and gorgeous Gauffre bags are the ones that have now come up with what we see here – they can do a lot better, and we all know it. Buy through Saks for $1295.

This bag is horrific unless they’re marketing it to teenagers. Bleh!

That’s all kinds of ugly. Even worse, it looks cheap and it probably costs a fortune. Fail.

    Wow, what a fail =P
They would have saved it with colour coordinating shorter straps or just one long shoulder strap…but this?? Straps for grown-ups and a bag for school children…I don’t think they could have created something weirder or uglier.

The little holes make it a hundred times worse, it really looks like a basketball jersey (although it would look good at Nuggets games, I admit- I’m not paying thousands of dollars for a bag that matches a team)

What the heck Miuccia? The bag is so fugly, honestly, if I saw it I’d probably think it was a well-made knockoff.

  9. I was hoping it was going to be an old old old season bag that ended up on a discount website, but it is not. This is on Saks!! Really not good, in any way.

They might as well just make it into a pencil case-I’m sure more people would buy it that way.
    Disappointing.

NO! Why has this happened?!? Perforated bags require a certain finesse to actually be pulled off… and this bag is seriously lacking.

I think Prada has lost their way since the Fairy bag season for the most part — could not agree with you more that this is truly bad and not in a fashion forward, oh we’ll get it in a year way. Just in a truly bad why did she think frizzy hair was interesting way.

I went to see the real thing in Milan last week. It is ugly. The little “holes” on the bag makes the white look grey actually…not a big fan.

I know. I was thinking, “Ok, this is a smaller shoulder bag.” But those measurements are TINY. I am shocked the shoulder drop is so ample with a bag that small…..Its so nice and handy bag…..more

Eeeewww…honestly I’ve seen fakes that are more attractive than that! This is the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen…wow, it makes me shake my head and wonder what the hell Miuccia was thinking when she created this. It’s like a cross between a zippered pencil case and a football jersey! Perforation has to be done more creatively than just a series of grid-spaced pin-holes to look good. This bag is truly heinous.

Look, get with the program!! I saw it at Holt Renfrew, and I think it’s hot and sexy!! Like every fashion that’s making a comeback from the past, I say anything goes in this day of age.
It all depends on who you are and how you wear it. So if your hot and sexy, and can afford the dam bag…….get it and work it!!!!!
