I remember a time when everyone wanted a little Prada backpack. I was in my senior year of high school, and girls in my affluent suburb were just starting to figure out the concept of accessories as status symbols. It was the early 2000s, so we couldn’t have picked a better time to start lusting after logo bags. I was the first of my friends to embrace the trend (how fitting) with a Prada Nylon Messenger Bag, which I received as a graduation present from my cousin Deb.

I’m no longer in high school, so it’s impossible to say if the seniors of 2010 want the same types of things that my class did, but Prada still continues to make the nylon bags that they’ve produced since 1985. The company is mum on how well they bags are selling compared to the style’s heyday, but we wanted to do a little survey of our own:

Do you buy Prada nylon?

Prada makes the BEST nylon, hands down.
There are times when you need this workhorse material in a bag and they have done a fabulous job over the years…..kudos to them!

“There’s a difference between like and love. Because, I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack.”

That quote kept running through my head as I read the post.

Haha, I really thought about trying to work that quote in somewhere! I love that movie.

I just saw The Taming of the Shrew at a Shakespeare Festival over the weekend. Awesome. I never wanted a Prada nylon item and I don’t see myself wanting one but that’s just my personal style. I don’t see anything wrong with buying a non-leather designer item, these probably look new for a long period of time, just not my style.

I personally own a 4 Prada messenger bags two in nylon fushia and black one in fabric beige and one in ostrich red . I love every one of them ,the nylon i use for the park or somewhere were i will get wet.

its stylish and the same time functional but i will never buy other then a messenger in nylon!

  • cestca

don’t have, don’t buy nylon because I find it almost always looks tacky, but that’s not true for all non-leather

  • Lavinia from Italy (Milan)

I have two Prada Nylon’s bags (one is like the one in the picture but not green, is black and the other one is a wonderful esmerald color). They are fantastic. Practical, LIGHT (I love light bags!) and you can wash it and rewash it thousend times and the nylon’s gabardine resists…
Leather bags are more beautiful but are heavy…
If you come to Italy there is an outlet Prada in Serravalle, which is wonderful…

I don’t own any nylon bags and I don’t intend to buy one! All of my bags are made of leather, which, let’s face it, is of much higher quality and, of course, timeless! I’d never spend money on nylon bags and shoes… However, I do find the designs of these bags quite practical for every-day use and I can understand why most students would want one.

  • Dangerous_Curves

Their nylon bags are not only backpacks and messenger bags. I have two of them and they are as fashionable as their other leather bags!

Tessuto Nylon is Prada Signature, it’s a Timeless Classic. My Prada Nylon Messengers from 90s are still around. I still buy Prada Tessuto if i see anything i like. My recent purchase is PRADA NYLON LOGO JACQUARD TOTE from Prada Spring-Summer 2010 Mens Collection. Prada Tessuto is very versatile. I like leather bags too but they need more care. I prefer other Designer Labels to Prada for leather bags.

I can think of a few scenarios, apropos to my life, when a nylon bag would be highly useful: (1) it’s pouring outside, I’m juggling multiple bags plus umbrella, and have to walk .75 miles to the train, (2) it’s a street festival, a bunch of drunken slobs will probably spill beer on me, and I need the lightest bag because I’m going to be on my feet for hours, (3) I’m traveling in a large city of a foreign country taking public transit and want something indestructible and extremely understated so that no one robs me blind. In none of these scenarios can I justify spending more than $100 for the bag. None. I just cannot bring myself to spend oodles of my hard earned money on something that isn’t made out of a luxurious, hard to work material. Yup, I’m talking to you LV canvas monogram lovers and fans of Goyard. I don’t get y’all. There. I said it.

Wow, it’s in those situations where I find the LV canvas monogram a great product to have. If someone vomit on the canvas, I can just wipe it off. The canvas is highly durable and light weight (if you choose a design that has very little hardware) for those long walk. I know alot of people are concern about the leather in the rain, but if you you use the damier canvas collection, you don’t have to worry about water damage or discoloration. I do agree about getting robbed though. I wouldn’t use LV in an area where I know purse snatching (or any snatching for that matter) is common. I wouldn’t even wear jewelry, watches or carry money in something that they can snatch. Nothing visible is my rule for those dangerous area.
I find nylon to be a great product also, but I only use black nylon. Other colors get dirty quickly and absorb oinment and lotion. They water proof the nylon but they can’t lotion proof the nylon also. You can wash the nylon over and over but just wiping the stain right off the canvas is a whole lot easier! I didn’t think much of the LV canvas line before but until I found out how durable and easy it was to take care of, I converted right over. I love carrying the canvas in the airport because I don’t have to worry about it getting dirty. I know LV charges alot for their products but after the amount of luggages I have gone through or all those ripped handbag, I don’t mind spending that amount of money for a product that I can use for the rest of my life. If you choose a reasonable priced item that last, it sure beats the “IT” bag of the season that will be dated by the next season. Just my opinion.

I love my Prada duffel bag to bits!!! I once accidentally spilled water on my Prada and I just wiped it off with tissue (or even your hands) and voila! …I’d probably go into a panic attack if it was a LV keepall with all the cowhide and all..and I don’t need to look after it much…Prada makes the perfect travel bag…and it’s more understated too :)

  • Lori

Such a great staple. I have a few…my first designer bag was a Prada nylon from Barney’s quite some time ago. So great for things like going to Disneyland or a day at the pumpkin patch.

I like your information. i am always look for this type of interesting and good information.

  • bentos

tessuto nylon bags from prada, which is the brand’s signature design is absolutely fashionable and attractive. i or we who loves prada brand, because of its prestigious contribution in the world of fashion would love to be seen wearing prada items. it signifies high end fashion statement. when you see a person who uses a nylon tessuto bag, it would most probably suggest that you are wearing prada. like “wow, that’s prada!” which also means “wow, you look fashionable and chic”. i own a grey leather prada messenger bag, and people would say “that’s nice who made that?” but when i would use my prada nylon messenger bag, they would immediately identify it as prada. i just love prada and i would like to be recognized as a prada user. that’s all. the reason why i love prada nylon tessuto bags. i’ll buy more.

  • bentos
