Fashion Week Spring 2010: Christian Dior

Dior 13If you don’t think that John Galliano is a mad genius and we’re just all lucky to be living in the same world with him, then you haven’t been paying attention.

For Spring 2010, his collection for Christian Dior connected beautifully to the retro-and-structured-underthings look that he had showed earlier this year during Haute Couture week, and the 40s film noir looks were exactly what you would expect a dizzy dame to wear when walking into a smoky private eye’s office.

Galliano knows his audience for Dior, and I could see them buying up these ultra-glam cocktail dresses and floating evening gowns hand over fist. And not only are they beautiful, but they so thoroughly inhabit the brand’s history and mythology while still incorporating modern touches like tough leather bombers. The past and present meld gorgeously into looks that are not only art objects, but are also impressively wearable, for the most part. You know, if you go to those types of events.

Miu Miu Plisse Leather Clutch

The leather on this handbag looks very similar to another bag we covered this week. Ah yes, the Bottega Veneta Boudoir Knot Clutch, with its chunky visible woven leather. Some of you did not like it on the BV clutch, but I am digging it on this Miu Miu bag.

Gossip Girl

Swoon.

Is it just me, or was last night’s episode GREAT?

All in one hour of television, we got a crazy Tyra Banks cameo, the return of the “I’m Chuck Bass” line, references to Heart of Darkness, Jean Renoir’s World War II classic The Grand Illusion, and Dumbo, and a closing song so good that it just made me download Passion Pit’s entire album on iTunes.

See, Gossip Girl? This is what you can be if you really put your mind to it.

Bottega Veneta Boudoir Intrecciato Knot Clutch

Bottega Veneta Boudoir Intrecciato Knot Clutch

As long as Bottega Veneta continues to bring us new Knot Clutches, we will continue to cover them. There is something inherently simple yet completely stunning about these clutches. The box shaped body with rounded edges and the knot closure make this bag easy to spot. The reincarnations of this bag is what keeps us on our toes.

The reason that I like the Bottega Veneta Boudoir Intrecciato Knot Clutch it that it brings volume and dimension to the design.

Project Runway: “Ruffles make me SICK.”

October 5th, 2009 / Posted in On Screen by Amanda Mull.

Project Runway

PurseBloggers, I’m at my wit’s end with this show.

Why? Because Potato Face Nicolas won a challenge last week on Project Runway and that means that he had immunity this week, which means that even though he’s full of fail, he didn’t get eliminated. And we had a perfect chance to banish him from our TV screens forever this week, and the stupid immunity thing got in the way.

And furthermore, because the challenge sucked. There is no way to describe it except that. After two weeks of strong, interesting things for the designers to do, all they wanted from them during this challenge was cheap blue crap. Literally. They were supposed to design two all-blue outfits for the Macy’s INC brand, which is a line full of quasi-trendy pieces made for people that really like jersey and polyester (not gonna lie, I have a few of their pieces myself, but that doesn’t mean it’s something I want to spend an hour of my life watching on tv).

I find myself confused to even be writing this, because this show doesn’t matter until Nicolas is gone and we get can actually stop looking at his lumpy head and start watching the real designers go at it, but whatever. Meh. This whole season is MEH. THIS IS PROJECT MEH.

If you’re sick of losing your luggage in a sea of black Samsonite nylon on the luggage trolley at the airport, we may have an alternative for you. And no, we’re not going to suggest that you put a brightly colored pipe cleaner on the handle – too many people have caught on to that trick, and where do you buy pipe cleaners, anyway? Like, what aisle are those on at Target?

If a more stylish option is your cup of tea, consider the Tumi Voyageur Python Avignon International Carry-on.

Look for Less: Chanel

Chanel Look for Less

When asked about one of the most classic handbags ever, Chanel comes to mind. The Chanel Classic Flap is synonymous with timeless. If you have the budget to splurge, this is a staple for your collection.

Chanel bags are also known for their high price tags. Many of us can not afford a nearly $3,000 bag. If you are looking for an option for a Chanel look for less, Urban Outfitters has an option.

Vintage Chanel Gold Bar Clutch

October 2nd, 2009 / Posted in Chanel Handbags by Anna Cooperberg.

Look at this clutch. Look at this clutch. Not only is it vintage Chanel, but it is beautiful, gold, and best of all, not tacky in the slightest. Could we ever expect Chanel to be? I think not.

But via vintage powerhouse What Goes Around Comes Around, Shopbop is again bringing in some unbelievable vintage Chanel with which to fill our closets. And this beautiful, queenly, sophisticated Vintage Chanel Gold Bar Clutch is absolutely no exception. Now, besides the fact that it oozes 50’s glamour more than a sponge oozes water, the size is of particular note.
