I may be beyond sick of novelty bags and their often-limited cleverness, but I’ll never tire of a bag design that genuinely catches me off guard. That’s exactly what bags from Taiwanese designer JumpFromPaper are designed to do, and the simple shapes accomplish their goals with an almost startling efficiency.
As the name implies, these bags are mean to look like they leapt straight from a Saturday morning cartoon and on to your body. The thick black trim and careful colorblocking make the simple shapes look genuinely two-dimensional, but the bags aren’t nearly as flat as they seem. All of the bags are fully functional, and because they’re made from densely woven textiles, they should be both lightweight and durable.
The look of these bags isn’t particularly high-end, which is often an issue I take with the current spate of novelty bags occupying department stores near you, but pricing is another thing JumpFromPaper gets right. Crossbody bags and totes come in at less than $100, with the brand’s backpacks (perhaps their most famous pieces) exceeding that number by only a little bit. At those prices, they make adorable options for kids.
