National Handbag Day

10 Bags I Want to Carry on National Handbag Day from Net-A-Porter

There’s something about National Handbag Day that makes me yearn for a new bag–I mean, why wouldn’t it? I think about bags all the time, but when it comes to the holiday we founded to celebrate bags, it feels like each year, I should definitely add a new bag to my collection to celebrate. I did end up getting two new bags this year, which I’ll share with you on Monday, but today I wanted to share ten other bags I’d love to add to my collection to celebrate National Handbag Day.

I ended up thinking about all of my bags to figure out what’s missing, and quite a few brands and types of bags came up. I haven’t purchased a fun, embellished novelty bag in a while; I don’t have a great new designer in my collection; I don’t have a stand-out design that looks entirely different from all my other bags; I don’t have a suede bag. I took a lot of time to think about what I’m lacking and what I want, which is how I was able to come up with this list. Here are ten bags I want to carry on National Handbag Day from Net-A-Porter, each one quite different from the next and great in its own way to round out my collection!

J.W. Anderson Pierce Shoulder Bag
$1,365 via Net-A-Porter

I saw this bag carried by a few different editors during Fashion Week. The ‘Pierce’ gets its name from the cutout front and gold circular barbell. The bag mimics a piercing, and I love the edginess it provides. You know I have a weakness for cobalt blue, so this bag is super cool and can also be carried as a clutch if you detach the shoulder strap.

Prada Cahier Two-Tone Shoulder Bag
$2,660 via Net-A-Porter

I don’t own a lot of super structured bags; in fact, I own very few. Designed to resemble an ancient book or diary, the Prada Cahier Bag debuted for Fall 2016 and became a must-have for many shoppers, and now I want it too.

Tod’s Double T Tasseled Whipstitched Shoulder Bag
$2,595 via Net-A-Porter

Tod’s doesn’t get a ton of coverage on PurseBlog, but the Double T hardware the brand has been using on some recent bags is really sleek. This bag is bold with its whipstitching and tassels, but I like the idea of an attention-grabbing black bag.

Chloé Faye Medium Leather and Suede Shoulder Bag
$1,950 via Net-A-Porter

I’ve been lusting after one of many Chloé bags, and this updated version of the Faye lured me in. The combination of leather and suede in the perfect autumnal burgundy hue is hard not to love, along with the slim accordion style–talk about chic!

Gucci Sylvie Appliquéd Embossed Tote
$3,500 via Net-A-Porter

I’ve talked a lot about Gucci bags, namely the GG Marmont collection, but Vlad snapped this bag on someone outside of NYFW and I immediately added it to my wish list. This bag will make you feel very cool even when you might feel like you’re not, and it’ll immediately amp up your style with the embossed GG motif and embellished flame appliqués.

Dolce & Gabbana Wicker and Printed Tote
$3,375 via Net-A-Porter

The fact that I picked this bag may have you questioning my taste, but bear with me. We saw a similar bag countless times outside of NYFW, and while I never thought I’d want a novelty bag like a small wicker tote, seeing it being carried by others changed my mind. Sometimes your collection needs the last thing you would think of, and in this case, it’s a wicker tote from Dolce & Gabbana.

Bottega Veneta Messenger Small Intrecciato Shoulder Bag
$1,580 via Net-A-Porter

When I asked for help on which baby bag to carry, many of you suggested a diaper bag for the baby and a small bag for all of my personal items. It may be a bit predictable, but I love the idea of a pink crossbody bag like this one from Bottega Veneta. It’s large enough for all of my personal items, light enough to carry while also lugging a diaper bag and not neglectful of my style for a single second.

KARA Large Textured-Leather Backpack
$525 via Net-A-Porter

Of the pieces I don’t own, a designer backpack is on the list. The super-hyped moment for backpacks seems to have faded, but I tend to like “trends” on my own time, and lately I’ve been feeling a luxurious backpack is in order. I’m not hopping straight to The Row’s backpack, but I’d definitely consider this burgundy option from Kara, which you can wear over one shoulder, both shoulders or in your hand via the top handle.

Anya Hindmarch Eyes Python Shoulder Bag
$2,550 via Net-A-Porter

Even when novelty bags became super popular, I never added one to my collection because I always thought I wanted pieces that are easier to carry for years. If you find the right novelty piece, though, it doesn’t have to go out of style. Anya Hindmarch is known for her quirky designs, and I love this python piece because it offers a playful touch on an everyday bag.

Mark Cross Grace Cutout Textured-Leather Bag
$2,395 via Net-A-Porter

I love this bag because it is entirely unlike anything I own. The space cutouts with different colors peeking through, green piping, and the box design is all kinds of amazing. I want to be the girl that has this bag, I want to carry my personal items in it while also carrying a diaper bag, and the best part is your outfit can be super casual and this bag will make everything in your wardrobe standout.
