So, as I am obsessing over the gown, I am now also re-obsessing over his handbags. I’ve been busy trying to pick out my new Michael Kors bag for the past 36 hours and I don’t even know where to start… so many to choose from.

I love how Kors knows how to constantly re-invent himself and his designs while always remaining both true to the classics and embracing new trends. An excellent example of this is the Michael Kors Heidi Tumbled Lamb Large Hobo. The first thing that came to mind was classic meets trendsetter. This is the kind of bag that should be the model when it comes to how to properly execute a slouchy hobo. Gorgeous lambskin leather and an oversized buckle detail play off one another perfectly. The leather being classic and the buckle offering the element of trendsetting. Once again, I love the single shoulder strap and other gold toned hardware. It is clear that this bag is elegant yet chic, timeless yet urban. Yet no matter which way you slice or dice it, I think we will most almost all agree; this bag is fabulous. And today, fake-tanned mensch Michael Kors is here to help with the Michael Kors Runway Clutch. The little evening bag has the distinct look of the late 80s and early 90s to me – an era of bright colors, strong shoulder pads, and shiny accessories. Patent neon pink is probably one of the strongest color statements a designer can make with a bag, and a shade like this references a very specific period in time – about 20 years ago. The strong edges at the top of the clutch, combined with the super-shiny polished silver hardware, remind me a lot of the ’supermodel’ era – when Cindy, Christy, and Naomi strutted the catwalk in the things with huge shoulder pads and Kate Moss was just another skinny British chick. Such clear references combined with such clean lines give customers a great way to incorporate a retro trend in a super stylish way. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $595.

For example, I might have missed the Michael Kors ID Chain Shopper. A lot of people don’t pay much attention to Kors’ bags, and he’s had a misstep or two in the past, but I’ve seen his last season or two become much stronger and more drool-worthy. This bag I like in particular – the multi-material chain is huge and industrial, which gives the smooth, soft black leather a rocker edge without being over-the-top or over-designed. The bag is exceedingly simple while still exuding tons of attitude and style, and that’s not an easy balance to strike. The version with the all-plastic chain reminds me a bit of some recent Chanel collections, but I’ve never seen them do a chain with more than one material, and I actually like this bag better. It’s more accessible, less gimmicky, and certainly at a much better price point. Buy through Nordstrom for $995.

And then there’s the great color; it encompasses shades shades of bright and deep blue and several in between, and would look amazing with almost any kind of sundress, particularly a white one. It’d also work during colder weather – just imagine how much it would pop when worn with a black dress and a great pair of boots. The price is great for an exotic from any designer you’ve ever heard of, and it might still be more than I want to pay for a clutch, but I’m going to ignore all of that and just imagine taking it out this weekend. And for that purpose, I submit the Michael Kors Woven Raffia Clutch for your consideration. Fun color? Check. It’s a red with both pink and orange undertones, making it eternally sunny and capable of matching and coordinating with numerous other colors. Appropriate material? Check. Tightly woven raffia is the most obviously warm-weather fabric out there, and the weave on this is a bit different than most and interesting to look at. Correct size? Check. It’s not too big to lug around all night, but it’s not too small to fit my giant, janitor-sized key ring. Reasonable price? Check – sort of. In the broad scheme of bags, it certainly isn’t bad, but I have some kind of mental block against shelling out cash on any clutch I’d actually think about using, since I would inevitably destroy it. This is a bag I’d consider ponying up for, though. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $350.

Classic, sleek, and chic. Those are all words I would use to describe this handbag. The Michael Kors Zip Patent Clutch could be one addition to your collection you would get loads of use out of. I love when I find clutches that have an element of distinction, yet at the same time I also love when some designs get back to the basics. This clutch certainly is classic but the zip detail through the middle definitely adds an edgy twist. I wasn’t sure how I felt about that, but it is kind of growing on me. The only thing to watch out for – I would suggest carrying a newspaper and this clutch at the same time – beware of smudgy fingerprints! Other than that, I’m liking what I see. Now, if this handbag doesn’t scream “CARRY ME” I don’t know what does. I am sure there are times where you read my posts and think “I’ve heard this before”, but here I go again. Living in South Florida does have some perks. One of them has to be the fact that we can get away with Spring/Summer handbags just about anytime of the year. For those of you who are waiting oh so patiently until Spring officially begins, at least you can get a jump start by swooning over some fabulous handbags perfect for Spring. The Michael Kors Skorpios Foldover Clutch is nothing short of gorgeous. The soft, supple yellow leather is downright touchable while the double braided handles add unique accents. Even better yet, you love the clutch but you need to carry quite a few things around? Fear not, the handbag can be carried as a hand-held tote as well. There is a top magnetic snap closure and plenty of interior pockets. Carry it during the day, at night, during the week or on the weekends, whatever you choose, the bag is bound to be a hit. The only drawback would have to be the price. I wish it wasn’t quite so expensive, but hey, a girl can dream, right? Buy through Bloomingdales for $1195.

Michael Kors Big Bow Clutch

Bows on bags are quite the trend right now. I have never been a huge bow girl. Actually, I was never much of a girly girl. Grade school was not filled with pink skirts and ruffles, rather tee-shirts and sports. I have transitioned over the years, and now find myself quite drawn toward all things feminine; bows, pinks, heels, lipstick. So there was a transformation. But you won’t catch me leaving the house in a dress everyday and you won’t catch me in heels most of the time either. I am a jeans and sandals kind of girl. But there is a way to infuse feminine touches without going overboard, and one of these ways is through your accessories.

So that brings me back to the bows on bags trend. Some designers perform this feat immaculately, while others make a hot bow mess. Purse Blog Savvy covered a Kooba Bow Clutch this week, which seems to be perfect for the bar scene or the younger crowd. With an unstructured bag like this, I find adding feet, which this bag has is a huge help. The double handles make it easily carried on your shoulder or in your hand. But more than anything else, it simply looks classy and fun. I can see this bag appealing to a wide range of handbag lovers. And the color – how rich does it look? No wonder the color is called “coffee” – deep, dark and delish!!! I truly like this bag, but my original question still looms – how much more popular do YOU think Michael Kors is now that we are in our fifth season of Project Runway? I have to say, I tend to have a love/hate relationship with patent leather. Perhaps it all stems from my childhood since I vividly remember wearing a pair of patent leather “fancy” shoes for Christmas one year. The shoes looked great with my plaid skirt, but to this day, I remember how much those shoes hurt my feet. So, maybe it wasn’t the patent leather I had an issue with, but the shoes themselves. Lately Victoria Beckham has been a walking Hermes and Marc Jacobs ad. Anywhere we spot her she is pairing her Hermes Handbag with a Marc Jacobs Dress (typically with Louboutins). It is refreshing to see Victoria step out with a different designer handbag. On Easter Sunday, Victoria Beckham and kids met up with Kate Beckinsdale and her family. As they perused the exhibits at the Getty Center Museum in Los Angeles, only one thing caught my eye, Victoria’s stunning python bag. And no, it was not Hermes! Victoria Beckham was carrying around a gift from Michael Kors, the Michael Kors Rehearsal Satchel in Coffee python, and wearing a Michael Kors dress. We have confirmed that this bag was a personal gift from Michael Kors to Victoria Beckham. Seems the two meet at the Project Runway Finale and hit it off. This handbag was the envy of every attendee at the Project Runway Finale, and Kors choose Beckham as the lucky one. After I brought you the Michael Kors Beverly Gator Watch Clutch, the response was actually quite negative. Here is the thing; I was torn. Did I love the bag or hate it? As I was trying to decide, it literally showed up in front of me and grabbed my attention. Vlad and I were attending a Fundraiser a few weeks ago and a friend of the family showed me her clutch. I looked down as she asked, ‘Do you know who makes this?’. “Michael Kors” I said with a grin. I smiled because I had only written about the clutch a week prior and then it was there looking at me. The Michael Kors Watchband Clutch is much more stunning in person that it appears in photos. I realize the golden watchband has been a turn off for many of you, but truly, in person, it finishes off the look amazingly. The white calf leather works perfectly with the gold metal hardware. Dimensions are 10.75″x 5.25″x 1.5″. Many of you may still not be fond, but I say give this handbag another shot! Buy through eLuxury for $695.

Michael Kors is known by many fashionable people, but has never been an authority in the handbag world. His bags have been basic and have lacked ingenuity at times, but he has designed an attention grabber for spring! The Michael Kors Beverly Gator Watch Clutch features lime alligator with a gold-tone watchband detail. This is the perfect slide on for your hand, which will keep your clutch in place all night. This is a very similar idea to the Prada Fall 2007 handbag line, which featured hand muffs for many of the clutches. There is a front flap and a magnetic snap closure. Dimensions are 5″H x 10 3/4″W x 1″D which makes this the perfect evening wear clutch. My problem is the price. I understand that Michael Kors is an established designer, and alligator is not cheap, but for the dimensions, is a nearly $4k price tag justifiable? I think not. Overall the bag is cute, it is an attention grabber, but I am not sure that many in the handbag world will be going out of their way to buy it. Pre-order for $3,900 at Neiman Marcus.

Michael Kors is able to offer us a designer handbag for a more friendly price tag. Not quite under the $1000 mark, the Michael Kors Chain Shoulder Bag sports cream leather accented with gold hardware. Some days I begin to question these handbags that I love, watching the price tags sky rocket. Is the price really worth it? Are we getting what we pay for? Even with this handbag, sure, it is cute and perfect for that light colored bag. But the tag is still hefty, considering all of the other expenses in life. The chain detailing along with the long zipper pulls are cute. I suppose what I am saying is that I like this bag, but I would not buy it. At Net A Porter for $1095.

During grade school and high school I really had no choice but to be preppy. Private school does that to you. But now that I can dress the way I choose, I do find myself still sporting the preppy look from time to time. For some reason, I have a place in my fashionable heart for argyle. When I think of Michael Kors, exotic materials do not seem to come to mind. Not necessarily a bad thing, just not an association. But today I have been hit by the Michael Kors beauty truck. There is something about this bag that just looks so supple, rich, and creamy that I can not ignore it. The Michael Kors Ostrich Drawstring Satchel is bold and beautifully with its peanut ostrich body and perfectly accenting brown leather trim. The two shades of brown remind me of some creamy dessert and since I have such a sweet tooth, it makes me smile. The top handles show off detailed stitching along with the rest of the bags contrast stitching. I am not always a fan of drawstring tops, but this top with beaded ties brings the bags goodness together in a way I can’t describe. The hardware and studs are golden which compliment the other colors and materials. On the front, there are two flap pockets with extended tabs. I can’t figure it all out, but there is something so alluring about this bag for me that I just keep looking at it and wishing it was mine.
