I’m continually surprised by the huge number of Michael Kors bags that I see women carrying in every city that I visit. One of the most recognizable bags from the line is the Michael Kors Hamilton, which has been issued in nearly countless colors, sized and materials. The version above may be the most exciting, though; like other designers, MK is always giving back and after the tragic earthquake in Japan, Michael decided to help.

MK debuted a limited edition Hamilton handbag in support of the Great East Japan Earthquake relief effort during Fashion’s Night out in Tokyo and to follow its success, the U.S. will launch this bag for a 24 hour period starting tomorrow, Monday January 22nd. The bag will be available only through a link from the Michael Kors facebook page and in select Michael Kors retail stores.

The designer will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the bag to support relief efforts for the Great East Japan Earthquake via the Japanese Red Cross Society. While many only give a portion of proceeds to causes, I find it entirely commendable that Michael Kors will give 100%.

The bag is the coveted Hamilton in a deep berry-colored matte embossed python finish. A keychain is attached that will serve as a reminder of those in Japan with a series of MK logo and “Michael Hearts Japan” charms. Anyone who read our covering of Michael Kors’ Spring 2012 show should be surprised at how the accessories are shaping up – earthy, simple and inspired by seemingly every nature-loving culture in the world. As with any bold aesthetic, some looks (any of the python) are better than the others (furry mohawk bag, anyone?), but they all paint a very vivid picture of how Kors is feeling for spring.

Surprisingly (to me as much as to anyone), I think I like the tie-dyed bag the most. I could see it looking just as chic with a ratty old pair of shorts and a slouchy tank is it would with a white linen sun dress, and that kind of versatility isn’t something you often find in a patterned bag. You guys, this is clearly not Michael Kors’ first time at the rodeo, even if it was his first time on safari. Kors used a recent trip to a luxurious South African resort in the middle of a nature reserve to power the Michael Kors Spring 2012 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York, and if you’re having a hard time seeing the theme in these photos, then you might want to get your eyes checked. From the prints to the proportions to the accessories, Kors’ clothes were steadfastly “Afriluxe,” as he called it in his show notes.

The tie-dye prints were the easy standout of the collection, and they were wearable and casual in a way that’s rarely elevated to luxuriousness on the runway. Kors pulled it off, though, and things got even better when those pieces were accented with tonal python. The best look? A full tan-orange python trench coat, which I dare you not to stare at for at least a solid 30 seconds.

Did you wear a little green for St. Paddy’s day today? This is one of the holidays that I think everyone likes to partake in. I mean really, who doesn’t like to drink a lot of green beer and tell random strangers to kiss them since they are “Irish”?

Instead of the green sweater I wore today, I would have liked to wear this gorgeous Michael Kors Pleated Crepe Maxi Skirt and with it I would have paired the Michael Kors Buckled Leather Shoulder Bag.

I am tall and hence I have the right body for maxi skirts. You have to be blessed with good height or a good weight-to-height ratio to pull off a maxi skirt. It is not for everyone, just like all pieces do not work on every body type (trust me, there are tons that do not work on me).

Right in time for the bold color blocking trend, this Michael Kors pleated skirt looks beautiful on the runway and on the model. I’d like to think that it would look just as good on me. Two downsides: the price is $1,195 and it is sold out at NAP right now.

Now on to the bag, which is of course the important accessory. I am not always drawn to white or cream bags, but when I see one that catches my eye, I typically start to swoon. That is just what happened to me with this Michael Kors bag. While his bags don’t attract my attention often, when Michael Kors makes a good bag, he really makes a great bag.

The gold buckled straps help break up the design and not make the two front pockets appear outdated, as they many appear on most bags. This bag is clean, crisp, and refined while the long shoulder strap allows a bit of a casual touch to the finished product.

This Spring you need to have bold statement pieces in your wardrobe and a nice neutral bag to pull the look together. I want both of the above pieces. Buy the bag via NAP for $895.

We’re only a few days and a few dozen shows in to Fashion Month, but the first clear color trend has already emerged in quite an obvious way: Come fall, you’re going to be seeing red. Michael Kors Fall 2011 followed that theme in a beautiful and uniquely American way, shooting a neutral collection through with a bursts of bright, combustible vermillion.

The collection was admirable beyond just the red, though. Kors’ outerwear in particular shone brightly, with everything from calf-grazing fur vests to floor-length wool overcoats to a stunning carmel crocodile short trench punctuating monochromatic neutral looks in shades from charcoal to chocolate. The feeling of the separates was comfortable and easy but still totally put-together and incredibly chic, which means that Kors likely accomplished exactly that he set out to do. We’re the real winners here, though, for being the future owners of his beautiful clothing.

In the Northeast, though, things are a little less spectacular and a little more inconvenient. For those of you stuck in your houses, I recommend ordering the Michael Kors Gia Shoulder Bag. Just take it outside and wave it at the snow; this little bag is so sunny and bright that you’ll have that stuff melting in no time.

If you’re not having snow problems in your neck of the woods, then I would also recommend this piece as an impromptu space heater or, if you must, an actual handbag. For once, a brand has chosen to do retro minimalism at a reasonable price point, instead of charging gobs of extra money for the pleasure of being on-trend. And on-trend this is – not only are the design’s lines clean and vintage-inspired, but the color is perfect for spring’s all-important brights trend. Buy through Saks for $595.

As for the collection, much of it was classic Kors, although the offerings ranged from small-scale and ladylike to large-scale (and I do mean large) and beach-appropriate. All of the designs gave a nod to fashion’s newly streamlined accessories shapes, and many of the bags could be used by men and women alike. As promised, what appears to be a smaller version of the collection’s Santorini Raffia Totes are now available for pre-order via Saks for $495 with delivery expected by the end of the year.

All I need is to see the bag in person and touch the leather. Then I will know if I am totally sold on it. Because the price is amazing, under $800 for a calfskin bag with karung pulls. The leather is treated with a pearlized effect which gives a nice sheen to the bag. The other aspect that catches your eye is the multiple strands that twist into the shoulder strap. This gives a modern touch to an otherwise simple bag.

The Michael Kors Tonne Hobo is unexpected but welcomed. The hobo, measurements 14″W x 11″H x 3.75″D, and has a 9″ drop. The karung pulls are both on the front zip pockets of the bag, giving a nice separation to the hobo body. On the inside there is a zip pocket, cell phone pocket, and additional pockets. And I’ll get right back to the price, which finishes this bag with two thumbs up. Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $795.

I talk about Princess Michael Kors himself every week in my Project Runway recap, but it’s much more rare that we sit down and discuss one of his handbag designs in a serious way, despite the fact that His Royal Highness’s brand put out a big line of bags every season. By the looks of the beautiful and reasonably priced Michael Kors Tonne Leather Hobo, we should do it more often.

For some reason, this had me fooled into thinking it was a Jimmy Choo bag for a moment – you know, a Jimmy Choo bag from back when their bags weren’t all covered in some combination of fringe, animal print and lightening bolts. My momentary joy at a reasonable-looking Choo bag was dashed, however, but it was replaced by considerable happiness that the designer was actually Kors. His handbags are almost always much less expensive, after all.

This particular hobo is even less expensive than I would have guessed. For less than $800 retail, you get a creamy, soft hobo that’s incredibly elegant and clean-lined, while still being totally functional. You also get some of the best bold hardware in the business (really, this is where Kors has shined for the past few seasons), ringed in real python and framing a handle that somehow manages to be both minimalist and detailed at the same time. The finished product feels like a surprise weekend trip to Palm Beach, but it’ll serve you well in pretty much any city that I can think of. Buy through Saks for $795.

All I do know is that this bag is a staple, a must-have, a classic.

For being a girl who loves simple, understated elegance it might seem a little odd that I only own one black handbag. To me, black handbags are like little black dresses, you might have one you use more than another, but you can never have enough.

I’ve been in the market for a new black bag for quite some time now and I’ve already put this bag on my list. It was the pleated body that initially caught my attention. But, it was the single braided shoulder strap and goldtone hardware that locked me in. The dimensions are pretty nice too: 16″W X 11″H X 3½”D and 11″ drop. Of course, there is plenty of room, but at the same time, the bag isn’t overwhelming. In fact, even if you are a petite woman, this bag won’t overwhelm you. Buy through Saks for $795.
