I find one of the biggest fashion faux pas to be ordinary designs that make people say ‘Ehhhh’. Even if you make a fashion atrocity, if you did so by going out on a limb and adding bells, whistles, horns, and all that shebang, at least you were trying to be bold and different. If you make a hit handbag by combining simplicity and elegance then props to you. If you just end up ordinary, then you have been nothing but safe and plain which is a major downer in my opinion. This is the feeling I get when looking at the Marc Jacobs Quilted Leather Wallet. Sure it is not awful, but it is not great either. It is simple and safe. Safe this time is not good enough. The more I look at the black quilted leather with visible white stitching I begin to even find it fugly. There is an embossed logo on the front with gold studs on either side, the closure is a press stud fastening, and on the inside there are zip fastening sections for coins credit cards. I have a closet crush on the Marc Jacobs Collection Quilted Cord Maggie! Marc’s designs being eerily similar to one another is not a plus for him (reference the Karen which is the fraternal twin of this bag), but I still like this handbag. The plum suede body with leather trim would look perfect for winter. The way the top-stitching is done creates a corduroy effect. The (removable) chain link shoulder strap and Trompe l’oeil signature feature tortoiseshell and golden brass. Pocket wise, this handbag has it all; including, a large center compartment with a zip pocket, open pockets for the front and back, and a zip pocket on the back of the purse. Measurements are 13″ x 11.5″ x 7″, and this color and bag is a sugar plum delight. Reduced from $2150 at eLuxury for $1500.

The Stam bag has been touted as an ‘it’ bag and seen on many celebrities worldwide. The appeal of this bag manifests in its quilted leather, frame structure, and detachable chain strap. The Marc Jacobs Leather Stam Handbag is eye catching because of the topaz color which puts me in my happy winter place. Imagine this bag with dark jeans, an off-white cashmere sweater and matching hat, tall winter boots, and a chic long jacket. Ahh, yes, that puts me in such a happy place. Combining the perfect color scheme is key when trying to keep a bag on top of the hot scale, which Marc Jacobs does perfectly with the topaz quilted leather and gold hardware and chain. This Stam is finished off with a clasp fastening at the top, small zip fastening pocket on the front, and khaki canvas lining. Drool worthy in my opinion via Net-A-Porter for $1275.

Over the year there have been a number of fug bags designed by some of the big names. Now that the year is ending, the black numbers need to be written in bulk and designers have gorgeous handbags that popped up just in time. I have been on a purse ban for the past few months, which ended today with a new Gucci tote, but that is besides the point. The point is that I have been keeping my wallet closed and attempting not to be tempted. Way too many bags are out right now that have me drooling and my hand itching to grab that lovely piece of plastic that is so easy to swipe and brings me good things. If I let me hand begin to do some plastic swiping damage, I may begin with the Marc Jacobs Karen Leather Frame Handbag. This frame bag features supple tan ruched leather with gold hardware and a touch of gloss. The detachable link shoulder strap adds fun without tacky. More of a ‘look at me, I am sexy’ than ‘look at me, I try too hard’. Closing the bag is a clasp closure and the handles feature circular buckle detail. Fun, cute, and under $200 is Marc Jacobs latest comic edition, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Safety Net Cotton Shopper. Life comes with rain and clouds, but knowing you have a safety net is always a plus- and makes you look on the bright side. Marc implemented this on his chocolate-and-purple polka dot cotton shoulder bag. There is also bird print and knot on strap and a bird and cloud ‘Safety Net’ print on the side and a signature tag on front. Just like the Miss Faridah collection, I see this bag selling out quick. Ok so these pictures are a tad old, but either way Victoria Beckham looks gorgeous in both and is rocking out a bag that has made it to the celeb radar as hot hot hot. Upon first glance, the Marc Jacobs Leopard Chain Link Satchel is a bit overpowering for me with the leopard print shearling body and chain link strap. But this bag may make it big time (it already is sold out at Saks) because celebs like Mrs. Beckham are seen wearing it; and let’s face it, the media and celebrities do influence many of our styles. I am trying to decide if in picture 2 she is having someone carry it for her, or she got it for her assistant/friend/person not as hot as her also. To all the mothers, people with younger siblings, and people who have babysat before in their life: what does this bag look like to you? If your first answer is what you see when you open your baby’s diaper… then you will be on the same page as Vlad and I. I am all for exotic skins- in fact, I really love exotics. But this bag is just the wrong color scheme and the marbleizing that occurs from the python just looks wrong. The Marc Jacobs Python Chain Satchel is described as cinnamon/dark brown python leather bag with golden hardware. I did not realize that anyone actually calls a snake that can weigh up to 300 lbs and be as long as 33 feet cinnamon in color. Maybe it is just me, but I find it highly comical. Chain shoulder straps are a huge trend right now, so I do appreciate the shoulder strap with multicolor ring insets and clips. Close up your dainty cinnamon bag with a push-lock closure on the front. $2500 at Neiman Marcus- I soo will pass this bag up, it needs a Huggie!

It appears like metallic is going to be the new black next Spring/Summer season, yet again. Marc Jacobs presents a couple of crazy shiny fashion and accessories, I guess we all better get out the sunnies, otherwise all the glitz and shine will have us blinded.

It is long weekend time which typically means sales are imminent. I have to let you in on a bad habit of mine. I do not sale shop. When the sales come, I run for cover. I just do not like so many people around me going crazy to get the best deal. It may be a slight case of claustrophobia but it is also a slight case of financial pain to my wallet. But, what can you do? So the days that the sales come, I wander the aisles of online shopping. This is where I find my peace.

There was a time when being associated with the 80’s was a fashion faux pas. But today when I sport a somewhat side ponytail and leggings I know that the 80’s are back in style. Honestly, I love the 80’s and now finally am appreciating the so-called style associated with it. Marc Jacobs tends to stick to the basics, but two of the bags for fall are styled after the 80’s and I am certain not everyone will want to pull it off (much like other 80’s styles).
