I can hardly even bring myself to give you a proper review of this bag. I mean, look at the name: the Marc by Marc Jacobs Jacobs He’s Not Dead, He’s Just Breakdancing Winnie Bag. That is the full name, what a mouthful! Who at MbMJ even thought of this ridiculously long name? Maybe the thought came because the design is a bit lackluster and the absurdly gold/neon chain is distracting.

Then again, maybe the obscenely long name makes perfect sense for the confusion this bag brings.

Let’s break it down and see if we can pull the design together with the name. The He’s Not Dead part, well, I take that to mean the simple plain suede in boring putty color has more to it than meets the eye. That is right, this bag is Just Breakdancing! The breakdancing aspect of this bag is the zing you get with the double top handles made with in-your-face gold and yellow neon.

The ridiculous awesomeness of the name does not distract from the utter mess of the bag itself. The shape is not flattering, the color is drab, the gold hardware is tacky, and their isn’t much overall appeal. I can tell you that I will be remembering this bag for one simple reason: its name. Buy via Saks for $598.

I thought for the lack of style and flair, this bag would be priced a little bit lower to rev up sales. honestly if this bag was in the $200 mark I would be buying it just because its Marc Jacobs. At least we know this bag would most likely be discounted at a retailer near you for the holidays.

I love anything Marc Jacobs, no matter how tacky it is.

  • 19yearslater

The name is spectacular, the bag is not. The shape and color are a little boring, especially for MBMJ.

  • Tiffany

Hideous! Wouldn’t pay $100 for this disaster!

  • Beth S.

Every genius has their disasters… this is definitely one of Marc’s!

  • Frances

I don’t really like that picture of the bag, but I saw somewhere else another picture of it and I actually liked it. I think it’s over priced as well, if it were cheaper I would consider it but I’d have to see it IRL first.

  • Constance

I wish I had a chance to see the other picture that @Frances mentioned, because this looks really boring as is. :0/

Ummm… Marc? What were you thinking. Grey can be workable, but this bag is a hideous disaster. The gold handle first off? WTH were you thinking?? And what is that leather and plastic? I have to say, it is defo not worth the price tag and I LOVE Marc!

That is one long name! I don’t like this bag. It’s got sporty elements, but then there’s this gold chain handle. It just doesn’t work.

Well at least this bag has a sense of humor…like all MBMJ bags

Ugly and cheap look. Color suks.

  • mochababe73

The bag wouldn’t be so bad if it were not for that ugly, brassy chain strap.

Agree. And agree with the below post about Michael Jackson. That was my first thought with this bag as well.

The handles and bag might each work well on their own, but together they look messy.

  • Merve

I dont know why but the name of the bag reminds me of Michael Jackson..hes not dead hes just breakdancng…I think the gold tacky chain is also in line with Jackson’s gold epaulets..

  • babe

“give me a break” (not this one, please)

  • Nat

mark is sooooo conceited. now he thinks hes funny. i dont like him any more. not with all the tacky and “couldnt care less cos im a genius anyway” vibe.
    boo you mark!

  • Nicole

LOVE the name… and I think I love the bag… Maybe this one doesn’t belong in everyone’s collection (perhaps NOT mine…), but a lot of what MJ does isn’t practical, now is it? I like the grey color and the crazy chain handles. Who knows, maybe in real life it has a totally different vibe?!

    what is this?
    some experimental bag?
testing the market to see if anybody would still buy a bag if it has a weird long name and awful looking design, just because it is branded by marc jacobs?
please please tell me nobody bought this! (ipad)

Again, I’m curious about the thought processes of designing a bag. There must be a ton of brainstorming and discussions. (ipad)

  • Ellen

This is incredibly tacky. It looks somewhat like a lunchbox that Marc put a huge gold chain on top to make it pass as a handbag. I really don’t understand any of it. (ipad)

  • Jen

    Ew. Not a fan. (ipad)
