When Megs and I learned that two of our friends started working for Bed|Stü not too long ago, it was only natural to inquire about the brand over some delicious breakfast. It did not take much arm-twisting to convince me to feature this unique urban brand today, as I’ve really come to like their stuff.
Bed|Stü represents a fine collection of men’s and women’s shoes, bags and accessories that was created with longevity, resilience and comfort in mind. All of their products are easily recognizable with their signature well-worn finish. What may appear as a roughed-up, beaten, scratched and consumed shoe that withstood the daunting challenges of daily urban life is the look you get from a brand new pair of Bed Stus. The comfort you seek from a leather accessory after breaking it in for months is what the brand is aiming to accomplish with their handcrafted creations. Instant character right out of the box.
I had the chance to closely examine the Bed Stu Burton Bag which will arrive in fall. The deep crossbody bag follows the brand’s aesthetic closely, the leather is very soft, as are the straps. Leather accents support the tumbled, rough look and the larger leather pieces have a distinct, properly distressed finish. The bag appears like it has been around college campus for three successive degrees and did its work on a bike messenger route for half a decade. Yet, it’s brand new.
Personally, I’ve only owned a Dersou messenger bag and countless other photo bags over the years, so my collection has not much to show for. However, I could see myself extending the collection with one of Bed Stu’s urban messengers. At $395, the Burton Bag is a no brainer for those who look for a comfortable and versatile dudebag. Pair it with the $90 Cosbourne shoes (pictured) and you’ve got the Brooklyn street look complete.
