New York City is always brimming with openings, new stores and fashion innovation, and in December, Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo’s famed Dover Street Market opened its doors in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. Dover Street Market has filled its space with high-end, avant guarde fashion and design shops, including a pop-up store from Louis Vuitton on the ground floor.
The store opened with an assortment of pieces from Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2014 collection, including an exclusive Stephen Sprouse-print stole and an exclusive Neo Noe Sprouse Handbag. We immediately zeroed in on this bag when we went to check out DSM’s new space, and it’s the center piece of the Vuitton shop-in-shop. The Louis Vuitton Neo Noe NN14 Bag Spotlight Bag features leather and satin jacquard with the LV Sprouse graffiti logo embroidered in a sparkling paillettes. There were only 20 pieces made of this bag, and each one is individually numbered.
The shop is creative in its design, with nods to the heritage of Louis Vuitton’s past. The Louis Vuitton collections are set underneath a modern interpretation of a crinoline, which may seem like a non sequitur but is actually part of the LV heritage; the brand’s trunks were once used to house aristocratic ladies’ crinolines.
