Judith Leiber Rabbit Clutch

by Megs Mahoney Dusil

Last night I was watching Ace of Cakes with Duff Goldman (typically I am a Cake Boss gal). Duff and his crew were prepping a cake for the Oprah show and they decided to make an enormous cherry pie piece with a scoop of ice cream on top, because the group is known for making cakes in the shapes of food. Just as much as Duff Goldman and Charm City Cakes are known for food shaped cakes, Judith Leiber is known for animal shaped crystal clutches.

From Judith Leiber we have seen a peacock, jaguar, camel and elephant. The latest animal clutch that I want to feature is the Judith Leiber Rabbit Clutch, one of the most wearable of the animal pieces I have seen from the brand.

Why is this clutch the most wearable? Let’s start off with the shape. The rabbit shape of this Leiber piece is much like an oval, and without a close view will look more like a crystal embellished evening bag that anything else. The color, silver and light pink, will work for various occasions. If you love Judith Leiber for her animal bags but never think you can pull it off, this is the option for you. There is an optional shoulder strap as well. Buy through NAP for $3,995.

What do you think of the Rabbit Clutch: A better animal shaped bag from Leiber or too plain?

I am so excited that you watch Cake Boss I love that show all the family craziness and the cakes. I have a big family so I find all the relationships so funny. My favorite cake this year has been the aquarium cake. I love this clutch my favorite animal as a kid was a rabbit, so I feel in love with this clutch instantly.

I like some of the JL animal clutches but I draw the line at Peter Cottontail here. I still think it’s a work of art but not as much of a fashion statement.

I really liked the JL camel and elephant clutches, because of their WOW colors. Much as I love bunnies, I don’t like this one because of its lack of color and maybe something better could have been done for the tail. Rabbits are all ears and tail, but no change of color to emphasize these cute features disappoints me. Could never afford one, but I really like that JL does them for that exclusive wealthy market.

LOL! This clutch reminds me of the one that Big gives Carrie on SATC….I think he gave her a bird? When she told him she loved him.

I like most of the Leiber animal clutches, but I’d be more inclined to carry this one than many, as it’s a more compact shape and could actually be carried as a clutch.

I think like someone said above, it is a work of art. However, I feel better suited as a pendant and not a purse. Although I understand, that’s the whole idea. But not to knock anyone’s creations, to each their own. But it doesn’t seem practical for use, and it doesn’t scream out “come buy me”, rather just look at me!
