Beautiful bag. Looks so cool! When I truly realized MJ's greatness was during college in the 90's. My dance class was leaning the Smooth Criminal dance and it was the most difficult dance ever. We pulled it off, but of course Michael was such a master that all we could do is imitate. I love his singing, but his dancing was just incredible. Incredible. My teacher said that Fred Astaire , before he died, saw Michael dance and said "He's one of us" (a dancer) To be complimented by Fred Astaire, just imagine! whoever said a piece of our childhood (children of the 80's) died with MJ was correct. And the world also got a little colder. RIP Michael Jackson. No one can come close to your talent.

Great post idea! I have been a fan of Michael since I was a kid. I'm still in shock. His music will live on forever. May he finally find peace.

When I was a freshman in college, my roommate had an 8 track tape player, and we all loved the Jackson 5 tape. She also had Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Jesus Christ Superstar, Led Zepplin, so I was a little surprised that she had the Jackson 5 tape, but that's the one everyone liked. I can still watch all the videos from the "Thriller" album and never get tired of them.
As for the handbag (which I really like) I did not realize the tie-in to MJ's red jacket, but I think it's great!

Anyone who grew up in the 70s/80s/early 90s has lost a bit of the childhood with the death of Jackson. All the kids back then would put a MJ tape in the machine and try and dance along to Billie Jean or Bad. We all have that memory. I dont see the next generations of musicians making such a profound and deserved effect. Its the end of an era.

I remember I had Halloween off in 5th grade and the Thriller video was on t.v. My mom came downstairs and I told her about this awesome movie I'd just seen. Of course when I told her about it she knew what I was talking about. Thanks for the music, MJ.

*Great* post, Megs!! Spot on...I teach classes on music video and it never ceases to amaze me how influential Michael Jackson's work is, even decades after his most popular releases. If you pay attention, his signature moves and musical are everywhere, yet never equalled. The world has lost a truly unique, incredibly talented individual. RIP.

OK well I am old so I remember Micheal from the Jackson 5 days. I had a Jackson 5 lunchbox and I watched the Jackson 5 cartoon on Saturday mornings. My brother and I would watch Soul Train every Saturday afternoon just incase the JAcksons showed up (and of course to learn the new dances).

The Matinee is my all time favorite RM bag and was before I even saw the connection to Michaels jacket. Hmmm subconscious??

I'll be doing the Bus Stop in your honor Michael. RIP

My favorite Michael Jackson memory: when I worked at Best Buy during college, when it was slow on weekday nights, we'd put a Michael Jackson concert DVD on the big TV we had in the middle of the store and we'd try to sing and dance along. That was only a year and a half or two years ago, and we never tired of that DVD. We were all in our early 20s, so most of us grew up in the second half of his career, but his hits were incredibly universal. And there were other DVDs that we would play sometimes, but the Michael Jackson one was everyone's favorite, and it always drew the biggest crowd of customers and workers to join in. Decades after his prime, people would still stop what they were doing to stand and watch for a few minutes. He will be truly missed, but the Michael Jackson we all loved will never die.

Michael Jackson influenced our culture more than almost any other artist. It is so amazing to see how he lives on in not only his videos and music...but in a handbag! And a good looking one at that. Thank you for this post; it truly warmed my heart.

MJ will live in our hearts forever. I still remember my first official handbag. I was 5 and my mum got myself and my sister these small fabric bags that had the Thriller album cover screen printed on them. I had the black one and my sister had the white one. Even MJ was there from the very beginning of my purse collecting days.

One correction though, MJ did not invent the "Moonwalk". It was originally called the "Backslide" and was first performed by Jefferey Daniel of famed 70's/80's group "Shalamar" a year before MJ did it on the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever television broadcast. The media came up with the name moonwalk.
