Last night marked the 2012 Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards. To be invited to join the CFDA is an honor, but to be chosen as a nominee and then win is a major feat. That’s why we’d like to send huge congratulations to Reed Krakoff for winning Accessory Designer of the Year at last night’s ceremony. The CFDA awarded him with this honor because they felt he has made the most outstanding contribution to the market and has influenced the direction of accessory design with his Spring and Fall 2012 Collections.

I picked some of my favorite designs from the nominees yesterday and shared them on our exclusive Net-A-Porter.com page, including items from Reed Krakoff’s collection. [Pictured above is the Orange Crocodile Mini Atlantique, $11,000 via Reed Krakoff]

I’m carrying my Reed Krakoff today and I love it!  Get one while they’re still reasonably priced :)

    Orange Crocodile = WOW!

shame on you. Only an american can give a prize for a…copy! This is a clear Celine’s copy. Krakoff could do better by their own? Good question. they had courage I have to admit it, selling a copy a croc one for 11.000 $, but sorry, I do not change my mind…shame on them.

I thought that Reed Krakoff would win; hooray! I have a soft spot for his orange bags, and this one is no exception.

I love Reed’s bag, they are very cool but I agree that sometimes they resemble too much Céline bags!

      Céline didn’t invent minimalism.

If you’re referring to the similarities between the Atlantique and the Luggage tote, I’d suggest you see them in person. They look very different in terms of 3-dimensional shape/proportion/detail. In terms of the rest of Reed Krakoff’s designs, they do not resemble specific Celine bags.

I actually prefer Reed Krakoff’s iteration of minimalism, since it’s more easygoing/less boxy.

I also prefer Krafkoff’s minimalism over the sometimes boring lunch boxes and envelops at Celine.

I’m still not a fan of Reed Krakoff.  Sometimes I see a Coach bag when it’s really a Reed Krakoff.  But congratulations.  What a coup in a short amount of time.

Lovely. I don’t think the most popular brand to do a shape has license over it (otherwise Marc Jacobs would have to answer to Chanel, etc., etc.) so I think it’s great that Krakoff is getting notoriety for bringing some spice to popular styles.

Eh, whenever I see a Celine luggage or Phantom tote, I see an Yves Saint Laurent “Downtown.” That bag really started the trend for “Wings” on a bag.

I like what Krakoff does and his bags are nice and I think his RTW is often times overlooked.

I wish I could afford this. *drool*

Unfortunately it is very hard (typically impossible) to trademark a certain design, as I have learned  in the jewelry world!
