Yohji Yamamoto Leather Bag with Metal Rings

Yohji Yamamoto Leather Bag with Metal RindsYou know what I like? I like it when brands that we don’t normally associate with handbags make a handbag line. Why do I like that so much? Sometimes, I think that the traditional handbag brands get so bogged down in their own branding that they can’t see past it to innovate or make something exciting. I’ve heard many complain that that seems to be the case with Chanel lately, and I might agree. So I’m always looking for unexpected things, and today I saw the Yohji Yamamoto Leather Bag with Metal Rings.

I have no idea how long it’s been out; I never click on the designer at eLuxury since he’s not known for his bags. Although it doesn’t appear so different than a regular bag at first, something about the proportion and handle look really interesting to me. It’s entirely functional in pretty much every way that it needs to be, but it still has a minimalist, architectural quality to it that most designers don’t think about incorporating when making a hobo bag out of soft leather. In the face of established designers becoming complacent, it’s nice to see a relative outsider in the high-end handbag market do something interesting. Buy through eLuxury for $2000.

This bag reminds me of something Kooba would do – and theirs would only be a fraction of the price.

Haha so true Cari. I don’t know if it’s the photo either, but the strap seems too flimsy for such a substantial bag.

Hmm, not for me. :( I mean, it’s OKAY, but it doesn’t wow me, you know? I can’t really explain it but yeah, maybe once I see it IRL and maybe I might consider it.

this bag reminds me of a princess puff shirt on a hanger! i don’t know why but that’s what i see when i look at it. maybe that’s why it draws our curiosity in. it’s like a bag but something else too.

I like it, it is interesting in a simple kind of way, but it doesn’t wow me enough to even consider dropping 2000 on it.

I can’t get past the price tag.
This is one I’d have to see, hold, and touch. I can’t get enough info from the photo.

Interesting shape but a little lackluster for the price. Leather bags are always in style but it is spring and I want more.

I wonder WHY the price tag is so high when someone new to the market designs a bag though. It’s nice, but why 2K?

Nice, but not 2000$ nice. And I agree with MizzJ, there’s something about the handle, it just doesn’t look like it goes with the bag.

I agree the designers get stuck in the same designs for many of the bags but I’m not impressed with this bag. It is functional though!
