Gucci Debuts New Shoulder Bag Styles and More at Its Cruise 2018 Runway Show

As expected, this collection is full of designer Alessandro Michele's signature maximal take on texture, embellishment and Gucci history

By now, we all know what a Gucci show is going to look like, but we don’t know how it’s going to get there, which is a delicate and essential trick for a fashion designer to pull off. Accurate expectations are essential for building a visual language between the designer and his or her customers, but if it seems like a brand has already put all of its aesthetic cards on the table, shoppers will get bored and go somewhere else. In that sweet spot in between those two extremes is Gucci, where designer Alessandro Michele established a litany of signature flourishes almost immediately and has been doing a joyful theme-and-variations on them ever since.

Gucci Cruise 2018, which was presented earlier this week in Florence, Italy, follows exactly along with those expectations. In addition to some new versions of existing favorite bags, like the Sylvie and Marmont lines, there’s one very notable addition: a small, structured shoulder bag on a short chain strap, which will probably remind you of Gucci finds from vintage stores or, if you’re lucky, mom’s closet. It’s most reminiscent in the brand’s logo fabric, but just like everything else Michele does, it’ll come in lots of different versions. Check out the full collection below.
