In 2013, Amanda Seyfried signed on as one of Givenchy‘s celebrity faces, and she’s since appeared in ad campaigns for the brand’s perfume, apparel and handbags over the last two years. (The Many Bags of Amanda Seyfried from 2013 will give you some idea of what her collection looked like pre-Givenchy contract.) It’s obviously been a very satisfactory business relationship for both parties, as Amanda seldom carries anything but Givenchy, and, in turn, Givenchy continues to keep her well-employed with new fragrance campaigns.
In fact, Amanda seems to be the best example of how this sort of partnership should work (from the brand’s standpoint, at least): a non-model celebrity signs on to represent a big-name designer for big bucks. The non-model celebrity then enjoys all manner of said big-name designer’s products, gratis, as a bonus for a job well done. The non-model celebrity flaunts said products liberally when paparazzi are around, to the particular delight of said big-name designer. It all sounds like a win-win, but not all celebs are as willing to fall in line.
Rihanna, for example, was enlisted by Dior to promote their brand new Dior Diorama in a glorious, Secret Garden-themed Dior ad campaign last year, but, being Rihanna, she mostly carried whatever she wanted for quite a while before switching over to almost nothing but Dioramas for several months.
By contrast, Amanda Seyfried has shown each Givenchy bag that has come her way a fair amount of (very public) love. She’s extremely partial to Givenchy’s magnolia print, and she even carried one of the brand’s comparatively inexpensive floral pouches to a film premiere. While seemingly every celeb in existence has hopped aboard the Givenchy Antigona bandwagon, Amanda doesn’t carry as many of those absurdly popular bags as one might expect; in fact, so far as we can tell, she only owns two. In recent weeks, Amanda has favored her brand new bedazzled version of Givenchy’s reinvented Pandora Box Bag.
