Fendi’s Spring 2014 Handbags are Brilliant, of Course

For the past two seasons in a row, Fendi handbags have been easily my favorites of Fashion Week, both Milan and beyond. Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi have combined to create handbags that meticulously walk the line between luxury and innovation, a line of which almost all other designers choose to fall to one side or the other. As in previous seasons, the bags of Fendi Spring 2014 are very well balanced.

Like last season, Fendi again took a futuristic eye to its bags, but instead of fur and acrylic embellishments, the bags, all leather, took a turn for the geometric. My favorites were the gradient-printed 2Jours totes, but pieced-leather versions of the bag, some of which resembled the blown-up details computer circuit boards, were also interesting. Perhaps the most noticeable, though, was what hung on the bags themselves – multitudes of fuzzy little charms in a rainbow of colors, which Fendi seemed to think were a more appropriate use for fur in the warm months than bags covered in the material itself. You can get that look right now with Fendi’s little monster bag charm.
