Oscar de la Renta Fall/Winter 2013 Collection (1)

There was so much build up and anticipation ahead of the Oscar de la Renta Fall 2013 collection. Ever since the brand announced that Oscar would take ex-Dior designer John Galliano into his studio, the fashion world has been buzzing about this collection. Would Galliano have a major hand in the design process, would the collection be that of a dual collaboration, would Galliano take the stage with Oscar at the end of the show?

The show space on 42nd Street was packed on Tuesday afternoon as the fashion world, including designers Diane von Furstenberg and Valentino Garavani, anxiously waited to see Oscar’s collection. From the opening look, there was a sense that Galliano’s presence was in the room, and though we may not have seen the man himself, we felt his hand in the clothes and styling. The first looks that came down the long runway showed suits that had refined and beautiful Oscar de la Renta designs paired with Galliano-esque touches like felt cloche hats and jackets tied together by knotted thin leather belts at the waist.

As the show went on, everything turned a little more Oscar, with delicate lace work and vividly hued gowns. Notably, the styling was probably Galliano’s biggest influence; it had more edge than we’ve seen from de la Renta in recent seasons. Oscar’s handbags have continued to wow me, with beautiful clutches and stylish designs that accompanied some of the looks. Most importantly, there was a feeling of two of fashion’s greats in the room that night, and for that, I am thankful.

The finally dress were just stunning and I was thinking to myself “this doesn’t seem like something Oscar would do” and then I read later that it was a collab with Galliano and then it made sense lol. I’m happy that they worked to gather. It was a lovely collection. Vintage and elegant all in one :-)
