Kate Spade Spring/Summer 2014 (1)

Fashion show settings can range from the mundane (rows of seats and a while runway) to the sublime (anything Chanel’s done in the past five years), and Kate Spade always prefers to be on the latter end of the spectrum. For the Kate Spade Spring 2014 collection, Kate Spade created an indoor garden party, the white pebbled entrance of which recalled Chanel’s spectacular Spring 2011 runway show, also set in a garden created indoors.

Kate Spade and Chanel are very different brands that do things on very different scales, of course, but Spade’s lush faux greenery formed a perfect backdrop for clothes that were just about as “spring” as it gets – lemon-dotted separates, full-skirted frocks in checks and wide stripes, trim bags in light colors and pointed-toe pumps in everything from patent pastels to bright holographic finishes. Kate Spade’s look is very, very specific, and by now we all know it well, but few brands do a better job of harnessing their aesthetics than Spade.

I love the collection! The clothes just make me happy to look at, the bags especially the clutches are so fun, and that little car ring is so fun my son would love it if I wore that. The model wearing the hat looks miserable in every single photo she has such a scowl on her face and she is locking her knees which you are not supposed to do because you can faint after a long time of standing with your knees locked. Honestly, I don’t know if it is true but it looks terrible anyway. I love the two models with the big grin on their faces now to me Kate is all about fun chic and to me those two models seem to get it. I can’t wait to buy some of these lovely pieces even if it is only in my dreams.

Thanks, Kate Spade. Your wimpy straw basket has managed to take one of my favorite early 1970s images and destroyed it… the original poster featured a strong, Peter Maxx-like image of a head with the top flipped open, lemons dropping in and lemonade pouring out a spout attached at the nose. Quote popularly attributed to Elbert Hubbard from the 1920s. No originality whatsoever.
